You get to do a tasting?? I'm so jealous

I made them agree to do one before I signed, or else they normally don't do them. That's why we're doing it the same day as the menu planning - or else I could have done just the two of us for the menu planning a separate day from the tasting, but the Crescent said we'll do the tasting the same day when another event is going on.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

I guess I am the odd man out. This is actually something I am freaking out about. John and I are paying for the wedding ourselves. His mother has NEVER been to a wedding in her ENTIRE life (hers was a justice of the peace). So I dont want her at the tasting because our tasting is actually a set up wedding for 07 brides. With that being said I think it will take away from the ahh moment at our wedding.

If I dont take FMIL then my mom reallly shouldn't go either. I dont know what to do or who to invite but I definately dont want our parents there.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

I brought my parents and two cousins that were in town (they wanted to see the place). There were way too many people there. It was way too hard to concentrate and you have to make a lot of decisions. I think it would've gone better if it was just me and FH.

Tell him that you want your parents to be involved as they are paying for it and you feel its right that they come.
Maybe he just feels uncomfotable. Are they close?

yes, which is why I don't get it. I think he's standing on this principle - for some reason. He feels my parents are too involved in everything in my life, which they are, but oh well! And in this case... they're paying!!

Exactly! They are paying.they should go if they want to. I don't this is something he should be upset over. My parents are way involved in my life too but I like it that way! I love my parents and without them, there would be no wedding! If they wanna pick out some food, so be it!

I agree. It aggravates the heck out of me that this would even be an issue. I asked him if it would be okay, and he's like, 'well obviously you made the decision already, so why ask me?'. so annoying! Meanwhile, he gets along so well with my parents - and they treat us so well - so why make an issue out of this? I feel like he's a bit jealous of how well they treat us because we don't get that from his side, plus his father's no longer with us so that's kind of hard, too. But don't take it out on my parents! I would never tell my parents how he is with this stuff. I just told my dad about going Saturday, and my dad's like, 'Free Hoy Doyvs? Cool!' He's so cute! What am I gonna say? Give me a check for $9,000 - Joe and I are going for free grub and you're not invited???

Aww..I'm the same way with my parents. My dad loves when I ask him to do wedding related things with me. He's paying and I would never not want him included. He even went to my first fitting with me! FH's parents aren't as involved so FH likes that my parents are always there for us. They treat him like he's therir son.
You're parents definitely should go..tell Joe its not up for discussion!

wow... saying 'it's not up for discussion' might make things worse! lol. THAT'S what he has a problem with... not so much my parents, but thinking that he has no say. He's on this kick after I tried to put up a sign on our bathroom this past weekend that says 'Powder Room'. It wasn't funny then because we got in a big fight, but it's funny now. He was ANTI the 'Powder Room' sign on our bathroom. He actually got MY dad and brother to agree with him!!! It's coming down. He says it's OUR house, so why do I get to make the decision, even if he HATES a sign that says 'Powder Room'? I think this is along the same lines... he feels it's our wedding... why would our parents be there? WELL.... they're PAYING. And HOSTING the party. But they're also not the type to dictate to us what will be served, but they're allowed to have SOME say if they want eggplant rollatini! (mmmm.... eggplant rollatini!! )

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

I didn't have a tasting. But when it came to the menu, DH picked what we wanted (A LOT) and then my mom and I narrowed it down.

SINCE your parents have to drop off money, they probably should come, can you use that angle? That they have to make a payment and it would be rude to just have them pay and not come since it is at the same time?

Normally, I would say that you should respect you FH's wishes, maybe this is important or he wants to do it as a bonding experience for the two of you? But since your parents have to make a rather large payment at the same time, all of you should go.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

we went alone to look, then took my mom and step dad, and his parents for the tasting.. just explain to him that the more opinions you have the better off you will be.. and tell him that the two of you will make the final choice.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

We were allowed ourselves and 4 guest to our tasting. But I do have to agree that when wedding planning occurs, eveyone wants to be involved. FH wanted to do somethings w/ just the two of us as well.

Yes... that's definitely the angle I'll go with if it becomes an issue (he's been at work all day, so we'll see if this comes up again... it better not).

Thanks for the advice! DEFINITELY the way to go! I can't WAIT for Saturday!!!
