RE: Building our dream house

I just posted this on the Home board, but figure I would post it here as well.

Does anyone here have any experience in building a house from scratch. DH & I are considering buying a house a good size property and just knocking the existing house down and building or own house on the property.

Any advice?

Thanks

Re: RE: Building our dream house

I don't think you should knock the house down - I think then you have to pay more for something (re-zoning, or taxes, or something)... My FSIL and her hubby (he's a contractor) knocked down the house but left 3 walls standing for some reason... I'll find out more and FM you....

I think the taxes are more if you completely rebuild, but if you leave 1 wall (or maybe 3) standing, then your taxes won't skyrocket. (as much).

Re: RE: Building our dream house

i know that you usually have to leave one wall up and as long as you build back in the footprints of the old house ( can be different layout and stuff just not to exceed the size of original) its not to hard to get permits.
