Upstairs room at CLM
So I went to CLM and I LOVE IT. I've been dying for it for so long, just based on the reviews and pics I've seen. But...the dates I need, the only room available is the upstairs room. Originally I thought I would be okay with that (I assumed I would be there anyway cuz of low minimum)...but once I saw the atrium room I had to have it.Those who have been to weddings upstairs...what did you think? I feel that I could get over the lower ceilings and the darkness of the room during a night wedding...but it looks like I can only have a day wedding with the dates they have available. Will those low ceilings matter? I feel like it just makes the room so gloomy. I dunno...but the rest of CLM I am CRAZY about! I just worry about the upstairs room during the day. It is a better view...but the room is just not cheery and bright enough for me for a daytime wedding.
I really wish I hadn't made my heart set on CLM. I was so set on just going to them and not shopping around! And now I might have to...but I simply cannot imagine anyone beating the great deal that they have. And I love the outside cocktail hour and yacht arrival!!!
ARRGHH!!
welcome to wedding planning Tara!!!

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
Yeah I'd be more than fine with it at night- who would notice it anyway? But I feel the room is just much darker than the downstairs one during the day- and I want bright and cheery!

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
this is one of the reasons we did not book with clm. they also did not have a working elevator at the time (said they were in the process of getting one) and my grandfather would not have made it up the stairs. I also did not think the room was big enough - how many people are you expecting?

I would say we could expect 130-40 or so.

I went to Jen2999's wedding upstairs and I thought it was gorgeous...I may have even liked it more than the downstairs room....both are gorgeous! I was great!

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
Yeah, I guess if I'd never seen the atrium room I'd probably be more than happy with the upstairs room. I just worry about it in the daytime...it seemed too dark for my taste. Oh well, we'll see what happens. Thanks everyone!

I think you should go with your gut. If you're nervous about it now, you'll probably be nervous about it up to the wedding day. Something to think about.

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
We booked the downstairs room at CLM because of our large number of people. But we loved the upstairs room just as much. You need to go with what you feel most comfortable with, but I know you cannot go wrong with CLM!!! They are THE BEST!!!

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
In the end, price and service mean the most...and I know CLM really has that going for it. I just wish I knew someone who had a day wedding in that room!!!

Right, but it's not available for Saturday day weddings :( They only have the upstairs room available.
Thanks Kathleen- I saw Jen's pics and they were gorgeous. But the pics were all at night so I'm not really getting an idea of how it looks in the daylight. But thanks!!
Ugh I might check with Fox Hollow...but I doubt I'd get as good of a deal.

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
i attended a DAY function in the upstairs room...it wasn't the best day outside...but i do recall thinking it was kind of dark in there. they [the party hosts] didn't go to any trouble to add lighting with candles or anything. so if you do go with it, be sure to counteract the darkness [just in case it's not beautiful out and bright]. candles will add a glow and that's enough to take away from the darkness.but i agree with the poster who said if you are nervous/worried about this now, likely you will stay that way.

I totally agree! I think you should love the place you book and have no doubts. Just shop around a bit, and if nothing compares to CLM, then you know that is your place. Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
I absolutely see your points about having to be sure...but at the same time- is the room THAT important? Will that even matter to anyone? I think service and food is definitely priority and I know CLM has that down.Where do you suggest I go for the same price range? I do love the Winter Garden at Fox Hollow...just not sure I can afford it.

I agree with the other posters to go with your gut. Also, when i was shopping around, I looked at both CLM and FH and both were reasonable. I will also say that the BM we dealt with at FH was really nice, I believe his name was Joe, or Frank...something Marino I think...anyway, he was very negotiable so if you approach them with CLM pricing and say that this is what the decision is coming down too, maybe they'll work with you. No harm in trying. Also, did you check out Riviera or VYC? Both are on the water and are reasonably priced as well.

Ugh it hurts when my heart was set on it....
So FH is comparable in price to CLM? That would be awesome cuz I am truly in love with the Winter Garden Pavilion. I think that room would be spectacular during the day.
ugggh but I LOOOOVE CLM's package!! and service!! I just worry with bad weather it just won't be as great- no more boat ride, no outdoor cocktail hour. UGGHH

Re: Upstairs room at CLM
If you don't like the room that will be available to you, then why don't you look at other places? From your post, it seems like you have only seen CLM - so how do you know that you will not like any place else? There are lots of places on LI with great deals and beautiful grounds, maybe you should look around a little bit. Why would you settle for something you don't like because you like the idea of CLM? It doesn't make any sense to me.Welcome New Vendors
