Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info

Hi all,

I'm going to keep this thread alive! Anyway, I'm a new user to the boards and was researching wedding reception restaurants in Flushing, NY. My fiancee and I have read some reviews about East Manor in Elmhurst, East Manor in Kissena Blvd, and Gala Manor. My question is, has anyone ever had their wedding or attended a wedding at one of those venues? We can't seem to decide which is better; any input would be appreciated. If you have pictures to share of these venues, please do share! It would help us a lot!

Thank you so much!

I am so happy to have found this thread. My brother got married at the Linden Place this summer because the place he originally booked got shut down by the health department. It's beautiful for those who like french decor, with gold trim and painted ceilings. Anyways, they serve chinese food. check out their website.

I forgot to mention that Linden Place was recently bought by chinese owners, the website does not have their menu selection, but it has pretty pictures.

We checked out Linden Place as well, but my fiancee doesn't like it. Hence we are stuck b/w East Manor Elmhurst, East Manor Kissena, or Gala Manor.

Opinions? Advice? Anyone??

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info

I have a question as well....I'm having a reception at a reception hall and one of the cocktail hour selections is that you get to pick Italian, Spanish, Chinese, etc...

Is it worth it to choose the Chinese selection? Im worried that since it's an American place, they won't know how to cook Chinese food properly. Also since it's a wedding and most of my guests (95%) are Chinese, and eat Chinese food frequently, wouldn't they want to try other foods for the wedding?

Just wanted to know what you guys feel about that.

Same with my reception hall. At first we didn't want to choose that station because we didn't think it would be cooked well enough. I mean, they can't compete with the chinese food that most of the guests are used to eating. But our parents really wanted us to include it just to have some "comfort food" for those guests who don't ever really eat other cuisines. (basically, their friends hahaha).

just going back to the post earlier about gala manor vs east manor. personally i like east manor better. it doesn't look as old and run down as gala manor and i've heard good things about the food there. haven't been to a wedding at either, but i've heard more positive things about east manor. my mom is going to a wedding banquet this sunday at ocean jewel. i'm waiting for her review.

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info

Does anyone know where I can purchase chinese brocade, like the one in the picture? My mom said I should wear a chinese wedding dress with a phoenix on it and FH should wear something with a dragon. But FH refuses to wear tradition chinese wedding garment. So I thought maybe I can make him a tie or a vest to go with his tux using chinese brocade. He needs to represent!

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ dancing lesson info

went to a wedding at gala manor recently, the food was only ok, nothing great, if you take over the whole 2nd floor it would be nice. They do provide projector so u have have your own pic slide show.

East Manor Elmhurst is a good place, I like the 2nd floor there, and for the wedding i went to a couple of years ago, the food was very good. (donno how it is now, but when they first opened, it was very good )

Thanks Bride888, we're stuck b/w choosing Gala, East Kissena or East Elmhurst. East Elmhurst is a good place, but the problem is, we wanted the entire second floor, we didn't want to share w/ anyone and in order to do that, East wanted at least 75 tables, which we don't have!

Bride888, when you went to Elmhurst for the wedding, did they have the entire 2nd floor, or was it split into 2? Did you feel crowded?

Did anyone have the entire 2nd floor at East Elmhurst, and if so, did you actually need 75 tables? I know my friend had the entire 2nd floor, but she had nowhere near 75 tables...??

Hi just chiming in. I would just be careful of Gala for a wedding, though my family and I enjoy that restaurant for smaller parties. The only reason I say this is because we were having dinner there one day and a wedding was taking place literally next to us (only closed off with curtains). we could hear everything. It wasn't sectioned off properly and while im sure the wedding couldn't hear anyone on the outside, we were just all REALLY close together. I did attend a wedding at East Elmhurst and she did have like 600 people and had the entire floor BUT I have also been to parties there were it was sectioned off and it was fine. Just get the section where you can have the outdoor balcony access if you can.

Sorry for the new topic..anyone found a good dj/mc..I was thinking of Event Solutions but not sure if anyone has used them? Any other suggestions will be great.

If someone can speak Mandarin/English, that is a plus, but not necessary!! Also what are typical quotes for these services for 4-5 hours?

Aw177,

When i went to elmhurst they had the whole 2nd floor, it is very big, but i don't think my friend had 75 tables! that's a crazy big wedding....
the gala wedding was about 300 people and they took the whole 2nd floor

I met with a few DJ/MC, haven't booked anyoneyet. Event solutions is pretty good, they get the party going, lots of people dancing. however, their price is a slightly higher than others. their MC will only speak English and they will bring an "event manager" to speak chinese.

Sang along is another mc/dj that can speak chinese.

Hi all,

Thank you SOOOO much for your opinions!! It helps a lot. Like I said, I like East Elmhurst but we do not even have close to 600 people to have the entire 2nd floor. I heard through the grapevine, that if we have 350-400 people, in order to have the entire second floor, we probably need to get the most expensive menu, tip them extra and have an open bar, which might be too costly for us. So again, we're stuck w/ either Gala Manor or East KISSENA.

Any other opinions? Thanks so much guys!!!

just wanted to let you girls know that i booked east manor at kissena today! i'm so relieved that decision has been made. it was down to gala manor and this place and i'm glad i chose this place. we're having about 60-70 people so they're closing off the right half of the restaurant. i like that idea because we would have our own private entrance and the valet parking lot is right off of it. so excited.

CONGRATS!!

So now that there are some newer people on this thread I'm going to re-ask a question I had a while ago..

How do you feel about people wearing tiaras with their qi pao and/or kwa...do you have any pics? I have to wear the kwa before my ivory gown and then I'm putting on the qi pao after my ivory gown and I don't know how I feel about taking my tiara off and putting it back in my hair so many times..

hmm i havent seen many people wearing a tiara with their qi pao. thats from personal experience though. but i would have the same concerns about the removing the tiara on and off. wouldnt the tiara be pretty stuck in there? i wouldnt risk having my hair messed up so i would leave it in there....

i don't plan on wearing a tiara, but i don't think it's going to look bad if you decide to keep it in all night. i always worry about messing up my hair if i had to take it off.

I actually didn't wear my tiara with my qi pao. I had a make up artist that came with me to the catering hall to do my hair and make up for different outfits so I didn't really have any problem about messy hair.
I have seen some pictures of girls wearing qi pao with their tiara. I'll look for you.
