just wanted to bump this thread back up....

i decided to finally cave in and get a traditional chinese dress made in chinatown. it'll cost me $400, but i hope to wear it again to other events. i picked a blue fabric instead of red, so that i'll most likely be able to find someplace else to wear it to. and maybe after the wedding, i'll have it shortened to a cocktail dress to make it less formal.

just an fyi, i ordered a custom made dress online at oriental-cheongsam.com. it's very confusing when you're not sure what your exact measurements are. but anyway, it only took 3 weeks from the time of ordering to receive it in the mail. unfortunately, it was too big. so i had to ship it back with different measurements to see if they'll fix it. they said they would fix it for free, but i haven't gotten it back yet. maybe if it fits ok, i'll wear that after my reception and wear the one made in chinatown to the chinese banquet.

jen, did you even get your dress altered? i know you said it was a little big. i guess if i'm going to be spending all this money on it, i'll have to find time to change into it.

For those who are interested in using True Love..
I just had my studio pictures taken with them yesterday. My makeup artist Grace was very professional. She gave me dark smokey eyes which I didn't think looked good on asians. To open my eyes she put clear tape on my eyelids to make the fold more pronounced. I noticed the difference immediately. She gave me fake lashes. I never wear much eye make up so the lashes really bothered me. I was seeing doubles through the lashes. She said it will take about 10 minutes to get use to and it will go away. And she was right, after she's done with my hair I see straight. I asked her if it's too much makeup but she said for studio pictures the makeup is usually more intense because of the lights they used. When I go for my outdoor photo shoot she give me a natural look.
I had 3 hairdos. For the white gown I had my hair up. This was my fave, I will probably do this the day of my wedding. I'm not a big fan of tiaras so she put white flowers in my hair and suggested I get fresh flowers for my wedding day. For the evening gown, I had curly long hair, pushed back on the sides with a ribbon and dangling strands of beads. And for the traditional chinese gown I had my hair in a low bun off to the side (left side).
My photographer was Johnny. I forgot the name of his assistance. They are the BEST! after just a few pictures he picked up that my left side was the prettier side. That's why he had Grace place the hair bun and hair jewelry on my left. I was always self conscious about the height difference between FH and I so he gave me a little step stool, which was covered by my dress. Throughout the entire shooting they both made us laugh. I really wanted Johnny for my day of but he's already booked up.
I should get m proofs for my studio shoot in 2 weeks, I can't wait. Johnny showed me the pictures on his digital camera. I already know which on to hang in our bedroom. I highly recommend True Love

Not too sure about the picture quality about True Love, but my wife had her hair done for wedding day. Surprisingly, they did an amazing job with her hair.

Hi girls,

just want to say that i used True love wedding as my photo. in my wedding day, and Johnny was my photo. and he was amazing, He was very nice and wonderful.
He didnt take a lot of pictures (like 500 and about 60 of them are same pic. just different effect) but 300 out for them are excellent. DH and i are amaze of the moment he captured.
We are so happy for all the pics. We had a hard time picking them for our album.
We are very happy of our album, it was very beautiful, the only thing was the lady in the album apart. had some problem of us asking them to change some of the layout, but they did it at the end.
We are highly recommend for any bride who is looking for Asain photo.

Never having been married before, I would like to know what you gals have been experiencing in your search (and hopeful success!) in finding an officiant. Is it common for officiants to dance around the whole price question (even after being asked more than once about what they charge...)?

Has anyone used the Community of Peace and Spirituality (they're in Manhattan)?

Situation: Some of my fiance's family does not speak
English (Cantonese) and although not completely necessary, we would love to have a bi-lingual officiant. It would really mean a lot, but it's difficult to find someone that fits the bill. The aforementioned celebrants do offer bi-lingual ceremonies, but again ... the price thing...

I was asked what our budget for an officiant is (I'm not comfortable with naming my price and prefer to find out what they usually charge - as to not say something that is over what they normally charge and get an extra amount tacked on due to my lack of experience in shopping for an officiant...)

Also, if you know of any quality officiants that can conduct ceremonies in English and Cantonese - please let me know! :D

I've purchased birthday cakes there before, but - ya know - curious about the quality and price of their wedding cakes (yes, I can go there and get a price, but if you already have experience with them... )

I don't know of any bilingual officiant but I can tell you they run about $500. It also depends on how long your ceremony is. A typical ceremony is about half an hour.
