hcl200,
Here are a couple of Asian makeup artists who also do hair, they all range in price from $500-600 for hair/makeup for bride and 3 girls. Their rates are definitely better than the vendors here. Sachiko offers a free trial in her price:
sachikoyanase@earthlink.net (917)282-2081
REIKO UTSUGI (718) 777-7607 reikomak@gis.net
Sissi Chan sissichan1979@hotmail.com 917-518-6846
Wendy 516-298-3774 516-742-3135
I will probably hold the record for make up trials.
I've had 6 make up trials already.
I'm probably going to try out all the ones that eden suggested AND salon shin and kakaboko.

eden,
Thank you very much for your information! I feel like you are my bridesmaid more than anyone of them... Gosh.. You are very very sweet!
I am suprised that the price is only 500 - 600 for brides and 3 girls. I checked with Wedding Box, they quotes me for 1-1.5K.
Tha'ts outrageous! Don't believe the other prices others give you. Through all my wedding planning I have not had to pay an arm and a leg on anything. I think the only thing I splurged on was photography by booking Duet. All my vendors are very reasonably priced and they are all wonderful!!! You don't have to pay alot for top quality.
Feel free to fm me to ask away about wedding tips and such, I learned so much from LIW and I wanna give back to the girls who have to go through this too.
The wedding planning process should be fun and stressfree so don't let judgemental and critical ppl tell you what to do! ;)

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ centerpiece ideas
Personally I think all stylist/makeup vendors are about the same in what they can offer you. I think you just need to find the style you want and the look you want then ask them honestly if they can duplicate it AND if you'll look good with that particular look.
If you girls haven't visited this site for ideas, I highly recommend it. They have styles galore!!!
Good luck girls! Read my review if you need more vendor tips. I dont post everything I put in my review also. ;)

Hi, I just got engaged couple weeks ago. I am glad to find this thread. Frankly, I never like Chinese style wedding because there are too many restrictions (in terms of colors and symbols). I will do an American wedding but may incorporate some Asian elements. Where are you guys getting married?
I'm getting married at Leonard's of Great Neck!!
Congrats on your engagement!!!! let me know if you need help with any vendors!!

Oh I'm so glad there's so many asian gals here, maybe we should name it Asian instead of chinese?
Oh well, thanks for starting this thread kewlpuff!
You know what would be fun? If we have a Chinese/Asian GTG! I be we have loads of stories to share and tips to dole out.
I got married over the weekend at Westbury Manor (totally my style) and DH is as whitebread as you can get. Had to deal wtih so much crap from my family 'cus I didn't want to do the traditional chinese banquet and I actually raised concerns about having kids at my wedding!
Who the hell wants to worry about taking care of their infants when they should be having fun at a wedding?
Oh no, not if you're asian! It's totally unforgiveable to not invite all kids even the 1 day old ones! :P I could go on and on!
Anyway, I think it may be the sheraton hotel that does the chinese catering. Anyone tried it?
I've heard from a lot of my friends who have attended weddings at Sheraton that the food is mediocre. The service is a lot better than the other Chinese catering place. I know for a fact (only because I looked into Sheraton in Flushing) that they charge you bottle opening fee, cake cutting fee and they charge guests for parking.

I ended up going to a place in Korean Town, Kakabuka, and they were brillant, though rather expensive. I didn't have any bridemaids, which made life much easier. I highly recommend it if you can get away with it, or just having a maid of honor instead of an entire bevy of bridemaids.
My best friend, who had a very traditional Chinese wedding, have three, and she paid for our dresses. It's possible to find bridemaid's dresses quite cheaply, so I think if you do decide to have them it would be a nice gesture to pay for the dress, not to mention that if you pay for the dress you wouldn't have worry about getting them a thank you gift and feeling beholden, so it about evens out.
I agree with you 100%. I have 6 bridesmaids and I'm paying for their dresses and hair + make up. I know that they don't mind paying for all the expenses but just to think that they will have to deal with the bridal shower and bachleorette party, I think they have enough on their plate.

I just want to post my favors. Each of them have a mini-tin of tea inside, and a mini mooncake with lotus seed filing, just in time for mi-autumn festival. We bought all the stuff and put them together the night before the wedding
I love them so much I can't bring myself to give away the few we have left over. But I'm afraid I'll have to or the mooncake inside is not going to last much longer.
The last picture is how we had them arranged at the wedding.

Since I just took a bunch of pictures of the invite for a scrapbook, I thought I'd post my invite as well for reference. I always thought it's possible to have an elegant invite even with the traditional red and gold. Ours also have the Indian deity Ganesh in the opening page, since in the Indian tradition he is the god of beginning and remover of Obstacles. The guestbook I found in barnes & nobles, and funny enough it's made in India.

Can you recommend some decent chinese banquet style restaurants in queens for my rehearsal dinner???
I am going to have a full western wedding with no asian traditions so I'm going to try to have a chinese style rehearsal dinner.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We had our rehearsal dinner at East Buffet in Flushing. The food was wonderful! I think we averaged about $380 per table. That included 12 courses (including 2 desserts!). Non-alcoholic drinks were included as well. Our guests (Caucasian & Chinese) loved it!
ETA: Ok, I admit the service was only ok. The food was wonderful though. They did try to rush us, but my MIL is a strong pushy woman so she wouldn't let them rush us out. She told them off and said we are paying for this so BACK OFF! LOL

Thank you. It's made by a friend of my mom who's a costume designer for stage. She copied the design mostly from Augusta Jone's design, which I tried on at Kleinfields. The original dress is beautiful in the front, but it has a very high back which made any movement of the arms very difficult, and the beading is a lot simpler. I feel bad about not getting the dress, but I really wanted to be able to do ballroom dance in it, and I just couldn't in the original. Augusta Jone's is a British designer who's not as well-known over here, but her stuff is beautiful and perfect for Asian, and quite reasonably priced for the quality. So check out her website if you're shopping. The original's below.

All of you girls keep referring to price by table. How many guests go in each table?
I LOVE East for dimsum.
Do they actually have space for you to rehearse?
I am only inviting my bridal party and my international family members to my rehearsal dinner. We will have 20-30 people at our rehearsal dinner.

It's typically 10 per table, although you can probably fit 12 if the ppl are tiny or there are kids. But ten is waht you typically pay for.
so 38 bucks per head if 10 per table. That's hard to believe though! I typically hear of 50 per head at the 10 seat tables...
My bro had his wedding at East Manor as well...

My last name is Wong now too. You should see some of the looks I receive when they see a blonde haired, blue eyed girl with a Chinese last name.
Haha! you could have gotten Willie to lower his prices. Say you're related by blood! :D Fat chance 'cus Wong is a very popular last name (like Chen or Li) but you never know!
Oh and I know what you mean about the name! My last name is going to be English (DH is German/English) and I am chinese! Imagine the look on people's faces! You dont look English! :P

Sorry, I am a little clueless. The East I am thinking of is the more modern cleaner looking restaurant. There are two locations: Main St and Kissena.
Which location is better for a rehearsal dinner location?
Fiance's family is from out of state so I think they would enjoy a NYC style chinese banquet. My Korean guests will definitely like it too. Most of my Manhattan friends have never even been to Flushing so I think overall it could be a good choice.
It's pretty sad. My Fiance is such a twinkie that he doesn't know anything about these chinese banquets. I even know more than him!

How can a person possibly eat 12 courses!??!?!
Can you pay less and have maybe 5 courses instead???
I know I will be the one to negotiate prices bc FH hates haggling.

Actually 12 courses not alot because they will be shared by all your guest (10 - 12 people). I went to both Sharton/ East Manor, honestly I don't like food there. It's average, not the best. If you are in Flushing, I love "East Lake" - Chinese translation. they are very popular and you need to wait for a long time.

The place we went to was called "East" and it was on Main Street in Flushing. We were on the second floor, they have great dim sum on the weekends.
