NWR: Lost my Job
i got a job about a month ago at a law firm on a part-time basis. i thought everything was going well. then they call me this morning and say that they are going to let me go. reasons: i used the internet a few times and not work related and i'm not enthusiastic enough about my job.huh? what? not enthusiastic? i do all the work and ask lots of questions since this is all new to me. internet? what's up with a warning?
then i find out that i'm the fifth - yes, the fifth - law student they have had in the last few months and it never seems to work. i think i may have spotted a trend.
initially i practically begged that it just be a warning, but they said no. then i told them that since i'm the fifth law student they've had in the last few months that maybe they need to be more explicit as to what 'enthusiastic' means since it's such a vague term.
so no job. maybe law is not for me. perhaps i should go back to accounting . . .
just had to vent.

I'm so sorry to hear that
And what do they want... you to jump up and down all day with enthusiasm about being at work!? Theyll never find that!
Don't give up yet.... there's something out there for you.

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
Oh no!!!!!! I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!!
You're absolutely right tho, they need to be more explicit about what their looking for as far as enthusiasm. If you're the 5th one in only a few months the problem most likely lies with them, not you.

I'm so sorry to hear that.
That is ridiculous what they said to you. That's probably why they've had so many people come and go. Jerks, they don't deserve you.

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
I am so sorry!!! To be honest with you, it sounds like it wasn't your fault (maybe just the internet, which like you said, you should have been warned first). It is their loss!!!

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
I'm so sorry that this happened. I'm sure this has nothing to do with how good of a lawyer you are going to be! If they had 5 people who all didn't work out something is definitely up!Have a wonderful weekend and start looking for something better on Monday!

OH NO! So sorry you lost your job!
But I have to agree........things happen for a reason. This could be a blessing in disguise.
Don't give up! Something great could be waiting just around the corner!

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
so sorry!! but its obviously not you - if they have had that many people come and go, there is something wrong with them! I am sure you are a wonderful worker and will make a great lawyer! There are a bunch of lawyers on LIW, maybe they can help you with finding a better job!

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
I am very sorry to hear that you lost your job.I must tell you, I work for attorneys too. They are very hard to please and all they do is complain and have attitudes. I am SURE this was not your fault.
If you really want to do law, don't let this frustrate you. Just keep in mind what I said above.
Good luck.

Re: NWR: Lost my Job
As a lawyer, I can symapthize with you. I used to work at a large law firm and the partners wanted us chained to the desk. They want you till bill as much as you can. I am now in government work and so much happier. You will be able to get another job.Welcome New Vendors
