OK - need a good book to read while I still have some time....

I temporarily dropped out of my book club since I wont be able to make meetings for a while, and am not too interested in the recent book they selected anyway, so I need a good book of substance that I can read in the next 3 weeks....

Stephanie - you know what I like, but I am not into chick lit... I like good stories that really grab you right away - no slow beginnings unless its really worth it....

I have read and enjoyed the following:

Kite Runner
Bel Canto
Running with Scissors
Namesake
Red Tent

Stuff like that...

i haven't ready any of the books you mentioned, but i would recommend books by Jodi Picoult. I LOVE her books. My Sister's keeper is my fave. I want to read her new one, 19 Minutes, its about a school shooting and its vicitims and the shooter.

Wow - Push is hardcore! I read that quite a while ago - I like Sapphire a lot - she wrote a great book of poetry as well

I read my sister's Keeper - I liked it until the stupid ending, which made me wind up hating the book....

I'll look up On Beauty

yeah Push is no joke - i should have put a warning with that one lol. The poetry is also amazing!

oooh and my favorite Zadie Smith book is White Teeth! i always get them confused. On Beauty was good too but White Teeth is much better!

Ruth Kluger Still Alive is another hardcore book but its also great.

Great read! Long, but worth it.

Also, The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman.

I liked that one too. Got a little hard to keep track of at times, but it was good.

Are you in Oprah's book club or something? Those are good though, I've read them too. The Secret Life of Bees was great.

I have to catalog my books one day and make a list of the best ones. And sell the rest. I have a ton of books that were pure crap.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, try In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. I like the movie too.

I've been into mystery thrillers lately and am working my way through all of Jeffrey Deaver's books and Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child's books.
