Why am I having such a hard time finding a hair/makeup person?

The absolute last thing I need to book is hair and makeup. I have went to JN and was happy, but truth be told, FH was not thrilled. I went to Jennifer from fairytale makeovers, and it was just okay. My hair did not look good at all. She used too much spray and it looked stuck together and clumpy rather than natural. Plus, the style was just awful. So, my search continues. I was going to call Elena for a trial, but I read that some people were not so happy with her. I don't want to keep throwing money away on these trials. I just wish that someone could give me an honest recommendation for someone who will really do a good job. I would prefer to have someone who does both hair and makeup, but it seems that most people can only do one or the other. Please help me! I am stressing big time. I would really appreciate a rec from someone who has had a trial where their hair was down since I don't think I want an updo.

Tara, I had the same problem. I think I expect to look amazing when I walk out of a trial and Im just never wow'ed by any of them. My FH hates makeup so he will never be happy unless I don't wear any at all.

I don't really have any recommendations for you since I have yet to be wowed by anyone. So I choose people who i felt knew what they were doing and weren't outrageously expensive.

That's exactly it Stef. I have to believe that somewhere there is someone who can put on makeup better than me. I mean if I am paying someone over 100 dollars, they should be able to make me look as if my makeup was done by a professional, right? Who did you wind up with Stef? Are you still looking?

I'm having the same problem w/ my hair now. I've decided to cancel my hairstylist & hire someone new, I have a trial with Jennifer from Fairytale next week, I hope I won't be disapointed! I need someone that can do my hair & my Mom's, both updo's.
As for make-up, my Fi doesn't like it either(I don't wear much normally)and he thought I looked VERY over done when I came home from JN trial(in fact he said it looked like mortuary makeup!LOL!) but I took before & afters with my digi camera & it photographed beautifully. So, I'm asking her to go lighter around my eyes. I want my Fi to be thrilled when he see's me, but I also want my pics to be perfect!
I'm getting sick of paying for trials too-but I don't know what else to do.

Try Jackie from IMakeUp You. She does terrific work and makes sure that you are happy with your makeup. She also has a hair person that works with her, Margaret, who does terrific work as well. Check the vendor board for her info. You will not be disappointed.

Call Maximus at The Source Mall. I went in there the other day to ask about wedding day hair and makeup and was very impressed. They have a bridal coordinator named Antonetta who can answer all your questions.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just called them and I have to say that I was totally put off.

They want $50 MORE per service just to travel for the same service than they would in the salon, plus they charge a 25% travel fee on top of that!

Thats insane!

Actually - I have the reverse issue - I never wear makeup so I want someone to apply makeup so well you can barely tell Im wearing any. Evidently, no one seems to have that talent.

Im using two woman that Marie from Wild Rose Video recommended. I still wasn't wowed by them but I think I looked best after I left there.

I'm using Jillian from Gorgeous Faces, she advertises on this site. I had my trial and she was amazing! Definitely give her a call!!

For my wedding I used and would highly recommend:

Hair -- Melissa (631) 951-9080
Makeup -- Laurie (516) 314-1303

I never wear makeup, and loved what Laurie was able to do -- very natural yet enough for the photos. Both Melissa and Laurie will come to your house and work freelance.

Sorry this pic is soooo big. I figure you want to be able to see detail, so shrinking it would be no good. And this isn't a professional photo -- so forgive the quality -- its from a guest's digital camera.

Makeup was $150 including travel, Hair was $140 including travel. Both arrived a bit early for their 5:30 am appointment at my parents house. Prices may differ if you want a more elaborate style (or may have increased since its been months since I booked them!). It is so important that you feel confident in that your stylists will arrive on time, work efficiently, and be pleasant -- you will have enough stress!

I used Jillian from Gorgeous Faces (advertises on this site) for make-up and she did a really beautiful job. She did 5 of us altogether and everyone looked amazing. For hair, I used someone from Maximus at the Source mall. It was expensive to have them come to the house, but I booked at the last minute, so I really had no choice. However, they also did 5 of us, including me, and it was worth it, we all loved our hair.

I'm going to go to a salon(not sure which one yet) for my hair, then Jillian from Gorgeous Faces is coming to my home to do my make-up. She has pics on her ad on this site and a portfolio she'll show you at the trial - call her!!
