NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

What is your favorite summertime hangout on Long Island?

Parks, Bars, Clubs, Restaurants, Ice Cream Parlours, Coffee Shops..

My fh is moving here in July and I just moved so help us out. Any notable places that have outdoor seating or great atmosphere?

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

You should take him to Fire Island. I like to go to Flynn's in Ocean Bay Park. I think on Sundays they have a band. It is so fun!

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

I would say that Fire Island (from the Garden City hotel) is more of a weekend trip probably. I live so close that I can go for the day and take the ferry back but for you that might be a long trip home.

I would try to research soon and find a hotel. There are not that many hotels there and they fill up fast!

Good luck!

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

I LOVE Fire Island. We are there all summer at Ocean Beach or Ocean Bay Park (where Flynn's is). We love Kismet too. The nautical mile is awesome also and it's closer to GC. We are big into boating so anything water front is where we are in the summer. I don't know what you guys are like, but in the summer, Island Park has some great party spots. We love hanging out at Paddy Magees on Sunday afternoons too. Long Beach is a lot of fun also and has some really nice beaches there as well. Montauk for a weekend trip is really nice too.

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

If you get out to the Hamptons, check out Dune Road. There's a great little bar on the water that is really great - John Scott's. Also, anywhere in Montauk (especially this restaurant Duryea's - at sunset) is great!~

ETA: OH! My favorite is Cyril's on Montauk Highway in Napeague (right before you drive into Montauk). We LOVE LOVE LOVE going there. Fun place to grab a drink on your way out to the beach! (Oh man, I wanna go now!!!!)

The Fishery in East Rockaway is a great outside bar on the water. They usually have bands on the weekend too! And they are a restaurant too

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

I absolutely love Fire Island. FH and I met there and get a house out there almost every summer for the weekends. It really is worth the trip.

Over where you are, I would definitely recommend any place on the Nautical Mile and places in Long Beach. You can easily find restaurants and bars close by and on the water.

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

FH and I love to pack our backpacks with picnic foods and go bike riding in Bethpage State Park... but that is only when we are sans children. We also like to drive out east to the wineries without the kids. When the kids are with us we still go out east... but usually to the lighthouse on the south - or strawberry/pumpkin/apple picking on the north fork.

Jones Beach is a lot of fun in the early evening. There is always happening on the boardwalk.

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

In long beach theres a couple of places...Theres bridgeview which is good for sat nights, and patty's which is all within this one circle which is good for sunday daytimes, its outside on a deck on the water. Theres also montego bay which is right there too and coyote ugly(these 4 places are one next to another)...if you drive 5 mins from there, closer to the beach there is minnesotta's which is pretty good, and theres a bunch of bars in that area.

If you go to the hamptons, for daytime theres neptunes which is an outside club on a deck on the beach, but its not everybodies scene but cool to at least do once maybe, its all hard-house.

Boardy barn in the hamptons is GREAT...its 4-8 on sunday only...its $1 beers and its a great atmosphere.

Well since you live next to garden city, inside the garden city hotel is Posh, ive been there a couple of times but not the biggest fan of it...its a club on weekend nights also alot of people go on thursday, but it gets too crowded for the size of that place, and alot of annoying people there, but alot of people do seem to love it so who knows.

The nutty in farmingdale

Crazy Donkey is popular too, they have an outside deck in front for people to hang out, they have live bands perform there too.

Re: NWR:Your Favorite Summertime Hangout..

Rockville Center has some great bars and restaurants to go to that wouldn't be too far for you guys. My friend bartends at Churchills so we usually go there when I come home, and Croxley's Ales is also always a good time. There's also a big movie theater there with lots of restaurants around it if you want a low key night.

In the Summertime, there are plenty of things to do. Long Beach is great since there are lots and lots of bars and restaurants. You can even check out Posh at the Garden City Hotel or Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale.

If you want to take a drive out--the Hamptons are nice for the weekend and definitely the vineyards. I like driving to the Vanderbilt Mansion since it's right on the water and eat there and even go to the planetarium.
