Re: Hey ladies, has anyone been to italy?
Rome and venice are gorgeous.... the cheese at the alfami coast can't be beat.... gelato....mmmmmthe trains.... #$%$% the trains.... AVOID THEM at all costs!
Just get hotels close to all the sites (the spanish steps in rome is an ideal locale... you can walk just about everywhere from there, except for the vatican... which is a short taxi ride),,,
hope this helps....

There is so much to do and see! Just to name a few:Florence- has the Uffizi Gallery which includes paintings by Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raffaello, etc. Then there is ofcourse the leaning tower of pisa, Pompeii.
In rome there is the Colosseum, the Vatican City and St. Peter's Basilica, Spanish steps.
Venice is so beautiful! The piazza san marco ofcourse! And not to far is capri island which is so beautiful and you could take a one day trip to the murano island where they make all the glass.

I didnt find it a barrier at all! You actually start picking up the language a little tiny bit when youre there. Everyone speaks english so it was fine we had absolutely no problems.

pros- BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD EVERRRRR!cons- you wont want to come back
a real con- if you or FH dont know any Italian its going to be hard to get around. Italians in big cities like Rome, Napoli... will try to rip u off! or lead you in the wrong direction if youre lost...
They pick americans out from miles away..

Re: Hey ladies, has anyone been to italy?Part 2
italy is the greatest - the weather depends on where you goi went in october - and it was snowing in Milan but pretty warm in Sicily
FM if you have specific questions.
I have been to Rome (must see- esp the Vatican),
Naples ( not impressed),
Florence ( too touristy for me),
Ischia ( tropical island but cheaper than Capri)
Assisi - a must for any type of religious person ( but maybe not on the HM?)
Pompeii - amazing place, not so much for HM
AND last but not least. . .my entire family is in the best place on earth. . .no NOT disney world. . . SICILY!

Re: Hey ladies, has anyone been to italy?Part 2
Going to Italy on your hm will be one of the best things you and FH will ever do together. I've been to Italy several times and I have to say that everytime I go it seems even more beautiful than the last time. There are so many cities you could visit...a few off the top of my head:Rome - for all the touristy things like the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and let's not forget great shopping
Amalfi Coast - I think that this is literally Paradise on Earth. Visit Positano and Capri and you will see the most amazing views. Spend most of your hm here - it doesn't get much more romantic than this place.
Florence - still feels like the Renaissance is going on in this city. Artwork everywhere you turn, a gorgeous Duomo, Michaelangelo's David and take a walk over the Ponte Vecchio - it's lined entirely with jewelry shops from start to finish!
Venice - what could be better than taking a gondola ride with your new hubby while sipping a glass of wine? St. Mark's Square, St. Mark's Basilica and don't forget to take a day trip to Murano for some beautiful hand blown glass.
You might be asking why my FH and me aren't going to Italy since it's clear to see that I LOVE this country so much...it was for no other reason than $$$. After paying off the wedding we won't have the $$$ for Italy, so we're postponing our Italy trip til next year.
Let us know what u decide

Re: Hey ladies, has anyone been to italy?Part 2
FH and I just went to Rome this past October (the week of your wedding) It was spectacular!!! We loved it the weather was perfect 70 and sunny the entire time we were there. Our hotel was a bit far from the center of the city so we did a TON of walking but it was a nice hotel for not a lot of money (sorry I'm anal about hotel cleanliness!) And there's a restaurant that has the best lasagne I've ever had (sorry nonna!) its called the Alex Cafe its right near the Hard Rock Cafe.HTH
