Wedding Gown from a bridesmaid dress maker?
Has anyone used a 'bridesmaid' dress as a wedding gown? I'm looking for a very simple long dress, no lace, no pearls, and all the bridesmaids dresses are much more appealing to me (not to mention way better $$). (A bridesmaid dress in ivory that is, not a funky color).Just wondering if anyone else has done this or thoughts on shopping for one this way.

Re: Wedding Gown from a bridesmaid dress maker?
I've heard of people doing it, it's a great idea. However, I've also heard that some salons won't allow you to order a white, cream or ivory bridesmaid gown all by itself. Which is totally ridiculous, and they don't deserve your business anyway, but it's annoying that they'd waste your time. I'm sorry, it's more of an anecodotal thing I remember reading about on here or on the Knot, i don't know of any specific salons on Long Island that won't do it. Just don't be surprised fi it happens!

Do you want strapless or straps? I know JCREW has very pretty simple gowns. The Davids Bridal website also has reasonably priced and simple gowns. And the DESTINATIONS line by i forget which designer, also has simple gowns.

Did you see that Target now has wedding gowns for a great price? They are elegant and don't have many details. Sounds like they can be right up your alley!

I don't know anyone that has done this but I think it is a very good idea. In fact I was looking at bridesmaids dresses and thought that half of these dresses would be perfect wedding gowns. Look on Watters & Watters website. They have some perfect dresses.

FYI: I've visited Simple Silhouettes (very nice people) and Jenny Yoo (nice sample sale last week!). Both have very good options.

Re: Wedding Gown from a bridesmaid dress maker?
try Jessica McClintock- a lot of her gowns come in white or ivory and are stunning- my prom dress in college could easily be a wedding dress- a-line, strapless with pick-ups and a small train!
