Please help me pick a wedding location!
Ok so it's a toss up and I know there is a huge diff between the two. FH and I are torn between getting married at Oheka Castle or in Capri Italy. Is anyone on here doing a destination wedding? We thought that maybe we would do Oheka and honeymoon through Europe.....we are so undecided! UGH this is hard!! Any advice would be helpful. I know this is OUR wedding and we should do whatever we want...... but we just want to make the right choice.

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
I was dying for a destination wedding!!!!! The only problem with that is that it ends up being more expensive for you and your family unless you own a home there. I would say to do it at Oheka, I've only heard wonderful things about Oheka, and then just do your honeymoon in Italy!!!! Italy is greattttt

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
Wow what a difference between Italy and Oheka! lol I think if you and your guests can afford Italy, then go for it. But if Oheka is more realistic financially, a honeymoon through Italy would be great. That way you have combined both places into your wedding. I have to tell you, I've heard WONDERFUL reviews of Oheka...its supposed to be an absolutely beautiful place to get married. Either way, the wedding will be beautiful! Keep us posted on what you decide

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
Personally, in my opinion, I find a destination wedding to be an imposition on your guests - especially out of the country. They all need a lot of time off work and the trip is very expensive. Plus everyone needs a passport. I would rather have a local wedding since more people I care about will be able to make it. But as you said, it is your wedding so do what makes you happy!

OMG Oheka is amazing. We looked just for fun but it was way out of our price range. I would do it at Oheka if I were you and honeymoon in Italy. It is a lot to ask your guests to go out of the country.

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
That's awesome if you are paying for your guests! i would go in a heartbeat. My friend was debating over the Amalfi coast v. Oheka. She decided to go with Italy. I would love to go but it's 2 months before my wedding and I really can't swing it or take the time off of work. I wish b/c I'm sure it will be nothing less than amazing. That being said, I would vote Oheka. I went to a wedding there and it was fantastic. Your FHs idea to have the e party there and then the wedding in Italy sounds pretty awesome too.

I love Capri. There is a small little church in the center of Anacapri that I always thousght would be a wonderful spot to get married. Oheka Castle is amazing though. I personally always wanted a destination wedding. but FH wanted to stay local..

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
I would have to vote against Italy. Only because we are getting married in Austria and its a pain in the butt to plan, even though we actually only live 2.5 hrs away in Germany. Going into this wedding planning I have had soo many ideas of how I want our wedding to be... and its really frustrating to get it done over here because weddings are totally different, and all the vendors look at me like I have 2 heads when I tell them what I want. Infact, I can't even count the time's I've told FH I wish we were getting married back home in NJ. And we can't afford to pay for our guests to come, so theres only like 10 people from my side coming, which kind of *****, but atleast it will really be a small intimate wedding like we planned. And we'll be having a really casual 2nd reception back home for the people who couldn't make it.

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
Honestly, while many people will tell you to do what YOU want -- you do need to consider your family and your guests. It is extremely expensive for people to travel to Italy, and even though you are paying for their travel expenses, they may want to stay more than a night or two and may also have to pay for additional things (meals, etc.). Also, it's not just the money. You need to make sure that people are willing and able to travel. Those with small children may not want to get on an 8 hour flight with them - or may not be able to find someone to watch them while they travel. Also, people may not be able to get off from work, etc. Unless you know people are willing and able to travel, I wouldn't do it. (If they are, then go for it)Sorry to be practical - I just know that it causes drama in many families. Personally, for me, there were too many people I REALLY wanted to have at my wedding who wouldn't be able to travel that far, so it wasn't an option for me.
If you know, however, that your family and friends are SERIOUSLY on board, then go for it. Just be prepared that there may be some drama. I would still do what you want, but I just think you should really consider the pros and cons of each. Destination weddings (especially that far away) may not sit well with some of your guests.

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
I got married at OHEKA and it was amazing. FM me if you have any questions at all. ALso you can look at my review! It would be very different to bring everyone to Italy though. I don't fly so I am going to say go with Oheka. I love it there and I want to move in, but they said I couldent. Whatever

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
my vote is for oheka. The reason why is because you said you have a big guest list. When you have a big guest list its more likely you will end up inconveniencing people. It's not just about money, but some people can't just take off of work whenever they want and there would be times I can't just go away for a few days or a week because of things I have going on here. If its a smaller list then that is different. Also, it is alot harder to plan a wedding from so far away. You can't visit with vendors whenever you want, you have to do it all in a short period of time and you can't go to check with them if anything happens. If you do decide this then you definitely would need to hire a GREAT wedding planner and i would suggest someone who specializes in destination weddings.

ugh yah, and can i be a guest? hahaOheka is not what I call affordable on an average budget - both would happen only in my dreams!
I vote Oheka b/c its amazing and I love it and it is a fairytale wedding location!
Best of luck! Just honeymoon in Italy! It would be more romantic that way

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
My cousin had their wedding at Oheka. It was beautiful and the food was great!!!! My one advice to you is if you are having a lot of guests think twice about it. They had close to 400 people and it was way overcrowded. Besides that the wedding was amazing!Good luck with your decision.

Re: Please help me pick a wedding location!
Ive never been to Oheka, but if you have a huge guest list, then go w/ it. Im not into that kinda of places, or like manions...I like villas, places by the water, and sometimes country clubs.A destination wedding will be great as well!
Follow you heart! You'll know...you're heart & mind will make the decision for you!................ok that sounds kinda corney...lol
good luck!
