Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

We put the top of our cake in the freezer.

1) I only got to have the one bite my DH fed me and it was good! I want more!

2) The cake is going to taste like s@#t after a year!

3) It's taking up a hell of a lot of room in there!

What is the reason for this tradition?

We are thinking about eating some now, and saving a piece to share on our anniversary.

What do you girls plan to do?

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

I swear I don't know anyone that kept it for the full year. It takes up a lot of freezer room, and they NEVER ate it.

I say if you are sentimental, eat some now, and save a slice wrapped up tightly in a tupperwear to thaw out, look at in a year, and throw away. lol.

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

I think we are going to cut it on our one month anniversary. We may actually get to enjoy it this way (didn't get but a bite at the wedding ) and I doubt year old cake is tasty.

LMAO !!!!

I don't know why there is that tradition, but I DO know that my FH will NEVER be able to wait a year (well, maybe a little piece can be saved)
I don't see why you can't eat part of it, I say GO AHEAD !!!!!

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

How bad are we? We ate it the next night! We got married on Saturday and left for our HM on Monday so Sunday night we decided we'd rather eat yummy fresh cake than 1 year old frozen cake -- so we did!!!

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

Definately go with the one month anniversay thing! Recently I had friends that got married and went out for a lobster dinne on their anniversary and then came home and celebrated with their cake. A lot of bakeries will throw in a mini-replica of your wedding cake for your one year anniversary...ask you baker.

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

I don't know how good it will taste after a year, but my parents told me they tried it when they got married - wrapped it up tight and stored it in the freezer for a whole year. When they took it out to eat on their anniversary - it turned out it was styrofoam!! They hadn't realized the top layer wasn't real. Never thought that would be something they needed to check.

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

My brother and SIL tried it too - they kept it the whole year and took it out on their one year anniversary....my SIL chickened out, but my brother went ahead and ate it - and was hideously sick all night!!

I've no intention of keeping it a year any longer....

My FI and I are going to have a smaller scale replica made up. I find it kinda gross to eat it that long after... lol but, that's just me.

What is it supposed to mean when you eat it a year later? Is it just a sentimental thing?

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

I have to say, hubby and I waited for our 1 year anniversary, and have to say that the cake tasted AWESOME!!!!!YUM!!!
I thought the same thing, yuck it will taste bad, but it tasted just as good as the day we ate it on our wedding. It added a nice touch to our anniversary

You have to make sure you wrap it really good. My mom wrapped it in plastic wrap, and then in tupperware. We felt fine the next day.

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

I wish we had eaten a piece ours at our 1 month anniv. Now we have to wait until the 1 yr. A lot of ladies I knew did the 1 month eating, with their first bottle of wine. Dunno what its about, but its tradition that I want to keep so I will wait for the 1 yr. Most ladies that took their out a yr later said it tasted great. Who knows they are probably sentimental...j/k

My sister said hers was delicious.....HMMM...
actually she wrapped hers up very well, plastic wrap and heavy duty aluminum foil. I am sure we will do the same thing. (not looking forward to it after reading these posts... do not want to be sick all night. )

I know 2 brides that kept there cake for the entire year and said it was good when they ate it.
It does take up alot of room though.. I may try to keep it as long as I can

Re: Does anyone know why we have to eat 1 year old cake!??

oneday: I'm still laughing about your parents styrofoam cake!! Imagine them taking up all that storgage space in their freezer for a year, for absolutely no reason. That's awesome!!

We're going to try it, just because it's the traditional thing to do. My girlfriend ate hers and said it was delicious. She wrapped it in multiple layers of saran wrap and aluminum foil and then repeated the process 6-months later.
