My hubby and I did the engaged encounter weekend, however we went to one in Redwood City, CA b/c we lived out there during our engagement.

I will say that it was the best weekend of the entire engagement period. It allowed us to focus on ourselves and each other and completely shut out the wedding plans. It was very intense, and sometimes very emotional. We both felt that we really benefitted from getting back to basics about why and how we first fell in love. We discussed some very important issues (for the future) and worked out some differences that we hadn't tackled yet. We learned that we have very similar expectations for what marriage should be about, and that was such a great thing!

But, all of this happened b/c we worked at it. There were definitely couples in attendance who just didn't 'get it' and they were wasting their time being there. If you put your whole heart into it, than you will get so much benefit out of it. It's not just about religion, in fact, religion is not really the focus of the weekend. If it had been, my hubby would have totally shut the whole thing out b/c he is not Catholic. However, he agreed that the whole weekend really was appropriate, even for those that don't label themselves within a particular faith.

I highly recommend going, if you have the time!
