NWR: Cats Rescued From N.J. Mansion Up For Adoption

Many Of The 113 Cats Rescued From Feces-Filled Mansion To Be Adopted
(CBS) SADDLE RIVER, N.J. There’s a happy ending in the works for the dozens and dozens of cats found living in squalor inside the New Jersey mansion.

People can begin adopting many of the 113 cats rescued from the feces-filled mansion in Saddle Brook last week.

A judge cleared the way for Bergen County animal control officials to permit the public to take the cats. They'll be available for adoption at the Midland Park shelter.

Cynthia and Philip Tamis are each charged with 20 criminal disorderly persons complaints. They're due to appear in court August 28th.

Their lawyer has said the couple had a long history of caring for sick and abandoned animals until they hit a severe financial hardship. They were forced to sell their home in a foreclosure auction for $2.6 million.

People interested in adopting one of the animals found inside the mansion can call the Bergen County SPCA at 201-573-8900.

Carol Tyler from the Bergen County animal control is encouraging people who want to rescue a cat to go out and do so.

According to Carol, most of the cats have undergone treatment for respiratory problems, ear problems and eye problems, and she stresses that only a week after they were first discovered walking, sleeping and living amidst their own urine and feces, the cats are doing great.

Poor babies. I'd love to adopt one but I already have 2 cats and a kitten. We live in a small condo so that is more than enough for us right now.

I hope they all get great homes and are well taken care of. Poor babies...
