to girls who have gone dress shopping

I went today, and found that the dresses I thought I would love didn't look as nice on, and the ones I thought looked ugly online / in magazines, looked really nice on me!!!

Anyone else notice this? I was shocked at some of the dresses I liked

Yeah, everything I thought I wanted wasn't 'the one' and what I thought I didn't want I got.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

that is exactly what happened to me!
i wound up ordering a gown i never would have tried on or liked in a magazine. the only reason i tried it on was out of desperation and b/c it was sparkly.
i fell in love.

most of the dresses i loved in magazines looked AWFUL on me.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

I thought I was going to hate dress shopping lol, but it was actually a lot of fun! I can't wait to take back my MOH and have her help me decide. . .I found like 4 I liked (really 3, my mom liked one a lot so I had the girl write it down)

It was just weird the dresses I liked. . .oh well haha.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

I hear SO many girls say this!! The absolute last dress they would've picked off the hanger ends up being the one they choose!

My dress is top to bottom lace, which I NEVER thought I would like, but when I put it on, I just loved it. So strange that it seems to work out like that for so many girls...

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

Try EVERYTHING on! You never know. They always look different in pictures, on hangers and on you! I found that out too. One I probably passed on the website that I went through a million times is the one i bought! Dress shopping is funny! Good luck!

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

There are just too many gowns out there!! Originally I clipped out pictures of wedding gowns that I liked and most of them were princess ball gowns.

On a whim went to Macys Bridal Studio to start looking there. I am 5'7' and medium build with hips. The sales person (Nancy) was extremely helpful, after trying on a couple of ball gowns that looked amazing, I realized that they didn't look that amazing on me. Nancy looked me over and suggested a mermaid/modified trumpet shaped gown because I had a 'shape'. I was absolutely against wearing mermaid/trumpet gown; I had a bad experience with one of those shapes for a bridesmaid gown. But finally she convinced and and wouldn't you know it, I fell in love with that shape.

I would recommend going to a sales person that has experience. Make an appointment on a weekday and take off of work, that way, they can devote more of their attention to you.

I actually didn't purchase my gown from Macy's, but the sales person's opinion made my search a lot easier and narrowed down the dress styles a lot.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

yeah same thing here - i had the ones i wanted to try on - from online & magazines - and i didnt like how they looked & then the owner of the boutique brings out this dress & im like no no i dont like it. and hes like just try it on i think ur gonna love it. so what do you know i tried it on and im like omg this is the one. and what do you know i tried on like 20 other dresses and went back to that one that i first tried on cuz i knew it was the one.
even looking at pics of my dress i still dont feel like its the same dress when i tried it on.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

That happened to me. Out of all the dresses I actually wanted to try on, only one looked really good on me (if I was getting married in the summer, probably would have been the one). The sales woman showed me a dress she thought I'd love, and when I saw it, I was like, eh, can't hurt to try it on. As soon as I saw myself, I knew it was meant to be my wedding dress.

Re: to girls who have gone dress shopping

I went in there with an idea of what I wanted (actually what I thought would look good on me) and they didn't! I didn't even want to try my dress on, but the women helping said 'please, i think it will be great' So I did....and fell in love. And then I went to look it up on the website and I still don't like it in the pic!! But I have a pic of me in it, and it's perfect!! hahaha go figure!
