We drove to the Amalfi Coast, but you can take a train to Sorrento or Salerno and take a bus from either city. I think you have to transfer in Naples, but I'm not positive. You do need to take a ferry from Amalfi, Sorrento or Salerno to get to Capri - it's a gorgeous ride, especially from Salerno or Amalfi.
A lot of people also stay in Sorrento because it's central to the scenic Amalfi Coast drive and Pompeii, and it's easy to take day trips from there. They have a ton of tour buses that go around the coast.

Thanks so much for posting this review! FH and I are going to Italy for our Honeymoon. we are spending a week in amalfi and a week in Rome. I can't wait!! the pictures are all gorgeous!!!

awesome review!!! we are doing something similar - flying into venice but taking a cruise to the greek islands for a week, then spending the 2nd week in italy - hopefully tuscany and rome!! so this was SO helpful - I'm so excited now!!!! Thanks so much!!

WONDERFUL Review!I did an extensive tour of Italy with a tour group which i thought was WONDERFUl but its always great to see what others say when they go-it alone!

Thanks ladies!Karmagirl76 - this actually was our first time in Italy, but I really enjoy planning trips, so we never do tours. I love doing all the research, and by doing it on our own we had more flexibility to do something last minute, or take a day to do nothing. I just read a lot of books and watch a lot of travel shows.
