Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

A couple months back I posted about how difficult it was to get my ring off...we all figured it was because of the humidity.

Well over the last week or so, it is almost impossible to get ON and OFF!! I probably shouldn't have forced it on this morning but I can't bear to not wear it! It's like my ring finger blew up or something. I don't get it!!!

Any advice? Anyone going through the same thing? It's so upsetting!!

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

nope, not an eternity band...just a very simple white gold wedding ring. It always fit perfectly fine- all summer long! then around the middle-end of September it started to be a problem.

Maybe I should stop wearing it for a while?

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

Are you retaining water? Have you gained any weight? (Not assuming you have, but these would contribute to rings being too tight). Then again, that said... I've gained 8 pounds since the wedding and my rings aren't that tight.

Did it previously fit just fine? Are you sure?

I've gained weight but not much- I'm basically fluctuating by 3 pounds. It always fit great! My other fingers don't look this swollen. My right hand ring finger is perfectly skinny!

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

You said you haven't really gained any weight, so could you be retaining water?

How does one retain water? I've always wondered that!

But why is it only in ONE finger? My other ring finger is perfectly normal!

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

Is it gold or white gold? Could you be allergic to gold?? If it's only one finger, that's weird!

(ETA - though I'd assume your e-ring is white gold, too? But maybe a thinner band?)

Shots in the dark.

I don't think 3 pounds would affect your rings (people gain and lose 3 pounds in a matter of days) -- and I really doubt you'd gain weight in just one finger.

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

It's white gold....and I've never had a reaction to my ering either. Go figure!!

I just wonder if I should stop wearing it for a while.

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

Okay, I'm out of ideas! DH is a leftie and I think his wedding band sort of gets in the way a bit. He doesn't wear his ring as far down on his finger as I wear mine b/c he swear it pinches. He moved it up a bit and it's better. (I think it pinches and irritates his finger when he uses his left hand...)

I'll keep brainstorming...

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

I'm a bit at a loss too!

Could it really be a slight allergy to the ring. Can you try not wearing it for a few days and see if your finger goes back down to the regular size?

I guess that's what I'll have to do. Geez I hope it's not an allergy. I really just don't get it. I haven't cleaned it in a few weeks....maybe that will help. Ugh who knows.

Thanks ladies!

Ering fits fine- though it was tough to get on today because of the swelling. The lower end of the finger is just pretty puffy in comparison to the others but it doesn't really feel like a swell...it's so odd!

Do you maybe have a small infection in the finger? Maybe from a paper cut or something? Do you have any pain or sensitvity?

If anything your rings should be looser today because it's so chilly out

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

So weird...but I had that same thing a few weeks ago....... My ering was fine, sometimes a little too tight but my wedding band was way to tight!! and I've LOST 13 lbs since the wedding

It's not an allergy, my rings are platinum, and none of my other fingers were affected.

I stopped wearing my wedding band for a few weeks and now I don't have the problem anymore??? SO weird.......

Sorry I can't help, I work out of my home so it wasn't so bad to be without the ring, but I understand your frustration!!!

Maybe give it a few days and see what happens

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

Wow that really is a bummer, since it's isolated to one finger, and just the bottomof your finger it does sound like an allergy or infection.

Or maybe your finger needs some air??? Do you wear your ring to bed/in the shower - maybe trapped moisture is making it sensitive?

I hope it gets back to normal

Re: Having trouble wearing my wedding ring

so I've noticed that if my finger begins to swell a bit due to water retention or some other cause, and I wear a ring that's a smidge too tight, that finger has much more trouble losing the water weight, and it gets puffier than the others....

switch your ring to your right hand for several days, and drink a lot of water. It should go away. Since it's a plain gold band, you might want to get it enlarged a bit.... it's easier to deal with slightly loose rings than slightly tight ones
