I've never been 2 a shower where the bride didn't open the gifts. I think people expect it...especially all of the older people...

i REALLY really didn't want to - as i hate it when people look at me - but you kinda sorta have to do it.Part of the fun that the guests have is seeing your reaction....

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
Hehe How different will the reaction be you can just go online and see what has been purchased already and then later refer to cards to see who got what. I just feel that the people who spent less will feel awful if they see others have spent a lot

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
People who couldn't spend a lot already know that there will be people who can spend more. That'll be the case at any party people go to. If they're gonna feel too guilty about the gift they gave, I'd think that most people would rather not go. Especially to a bridal shower, where the gifts are usually expected to be opened.

I don't think anyone would feel bad. It's always the thought that counts! They came to celebrate your happiness, not to compare budgets.

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
i had to open all my gifts and it was fun. Even the people who got me a few things or one thing that was less $$ still want acknowledgement besides a thank you card that they gave you a gift. I didn't open my wishing well though infront of everyone.

I don't want to open all mine cus i want to spend the time talking with everyone, but FH's mom and i had a discussion about this and she thinks people want to see you open their gift. And she def has a point. But then Im afraid everyone will be bored after like 10 minutes. SO Im at a loss for what to do as well!!!

I've never been to a shower wher i felt bad because others bought something more expensive than I did, nor have i ever heard anyone say that she feels bad about not buying a more expensive gift. But that's just my experience. The purpose of a shower isn't to show off your wealth, but rather it's a way to show you care about a couple by giving them a gift as they start their lives together, whatever that gift may be.

I have heard of bridal showers where they request all gifts not be wrapped or wrapped in clear cellophane so that they can still 'open' gifts but it doesnt take forever and the bride can spend more time w/ guests

FH's grandma handmade me a table cloth and that got more oohs and aahs than the most expensive stuff on the registry!!!

Yeah, it's called a Display shower...you 'display' the gifts, but you don't get to open them. My friend did it, b/c her shower was huge and to open all the gifts would have taken FOREVER!
ETS: you don't get to open them b/c they're not wrapped....just to clarify haha...

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
FH's cousin had a display shower earlier this year. I had never heard of it before. She just wanted everyone to spend more time enjoying themselves and chatting then watching her open gifts. So everything was wrapped in celophane. She was handed gifts, opened the cards and showed/said what the gift was. it didn't take as long as it normally would i guess and it wasn't as bad as i thought. but i still like the idea of opening gifts!

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
its like a big thing in my family if you dont open the gifts.an alternative is that people bring the gifts wrapped in clear cellophane (so others can see what you got) but then you dont have to open it.

That's funny... MY cousin had a display shower earlier this year too (are we related???
) She didn't even get handed in the gifts, though, they were just sent up on a table with stickers on them saying who they were from. There were no party games. It was just 60 women in a room having lunch, then the bride made a speech thanking us for the gifts, and we went home.To be honest... it felt like a waste of time. I drove 5 hours to be there, and it was just lunch at a restaurant with family I see all the time. No wedding talk, no gift excitement, no silly games. Didn't feel like a shower at all.

I think its pretty much expected for you to open the girfts at a bridal shower..i think some people would be alittle mad if you didnt open up their gift. but thats just my opinion.

Re: DO YOU HAVE TO OPEN ALL GIFTS AT BRIDAL SHOWER?
I HATE sitting at a shower and watching the bride open up gifts. So boring to me as a guest, which leads to too many mimosas. My mom has decided to do an 'open house shower', so that the guest will arrive little by little (so no surprise for me which is great). My plan is to open the presents as the guest arrive and then display them in another room. I'm so excited because that way I can spend more time with my guests.Welcome New Vendors
