if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

Just curious. I changed my last name (but still have thoughts about hyphenating!), and my boss was just doing a workflow chart for our dept and asked me if I was changing my name here. I defiantly said NO!!!!!! which gave him the impression it was a touchy subject!

anyone change their last name on paper, but keep their maiden name at work? I feel like I never want to leave this job so I can somehow hold on to my maiden name in some small way!

I still cringe when I say 'Helen J ohnson' it makes me feel like WHO? I just can't ever imagine associating that name w/ myself (even though I know I eventually will). why can't DH just become Michael Z____???? hahaha now I know that would be a whole new argument at home!

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

HAH! i didnt have an issue changing my name but I use my maiden at work for signign documents and packages simply because my married name is a trainwreck-people never get it right and our UPS guy actually BEGS me lmao to use my amrried name because he can decipher it.

But I understand the weirdness. when I hear people say jennifer Ljubicih, I still look around in my own world like nope they can't be talking to me. Just takes time.

I'm planning on changing it everywhere but work. We'll see if that is a good plan or not. right now people look at me all confused when I tell them that.

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

Helen, I haven't even gotten around to changing my name yet, but I plan to!
That being said, I'm still on the fence about changing my name at work.... When I worked in TV I told my DH that there was no way I was changing my name at work because my reputation was important to me. Now that I work in PR, he has been asking again if I'm going to change my name at work and I'm not sure if I want to...
I'm very attached to my last name!!!

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

I've changed my name at work, just waiting for my new SS card so that the payroll records can be changed.
Did my driver's licence already, and have to change everything else. Maybe a project for Friday while DH is at work.

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

I changed my name everywhere except work. It was VERY hard for me to change it at all but DH is an only child and it meant alot to him.
I work in an field that isn't a female heavy or large. I kept my maiden name there because it is much more distinguishable for future employment and recommendations. I did change it on payroll, benefits, etc.
Plus I needed to keep something of mine. It seemed like all in one day I wasn't myself anymore and it really was hard.

I changed my name everywhere but work. I work with hundreds of clients, so it was easier for me to keep my maiden name. It IS weird though when I'm called Mrs. McGinnis...

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

I changed it at work, too. I miss my maiden name, but I wasn't about to juggle having different names in different situations. Changing my name everywhere was confusing enough.

At the very least, you need to have HR change it for payroll, etc. if you legally changed your name. If you want to keep it at work otherwise, go ahead!

I changed my name EVERYWHERE...I couldn't wait! And being a teacher, it's so easy to get used to the new name cuz that's how the kids refer to you. I love it!

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

I don't have any days off for 2007 so I haven't officially changed my name on anything. I did, however, change my email at work and my voicemail to 'Yesenia Maiden Married' - this way when I do change it, they'll know who 'Yesenia MarriedName' is! (Believe it or not, there are now TWO Yesenia's at my office! I've been here 12 years, she's been here less than 1 year but there's a lot of confusion about 'which Yesi' all the time).

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

i changed my name everywhere and as soon as possible, mostly because i just want to get used to it. and i'm not important enough in my job to have it matter. with some of my violin jobs, i still go by randi 'maiden name', just because musicians are flaky and i don't need to confuse them and then not get called for gigs!

Re: if you took DH's last name- did you change it at work?

I don't want to change mine...I haven't even started yet! I was thinking of sneaking around work with my maiden name, but I heard it can be a hassle when it comes to tax time!
