DIY Flowers?

The more I think about this, the more I realize how easy it would be to create my own centerpieces and maybe even bouquets. What do you all think?

Re: DIY Flowers?

I was considering doing this for about 13 seconds when I realized that it would require a fair bit of work in the days leading up to the wedding.

I think it'd be awesome just keep in mind the following:
1. how long it will potentially take to assemble the materials ahead of time
2. how many CPs or bo-ks you have to make (if its 3 bo-ks and like 8 centerpieces thats a lot easier than 20 centerpieces.)
3. transport... how will you get your purdy flowers to where they need to go on the day of?

There are definite perks to doing flowers yourself, but the same can be said about a florist.

good luck if you choose to do it!

Re: DIY Flowers?

How about just doing the Boq's....unless of course you have a plan on how to transport centerpiece to the reception hall...at least with Boq's..you wouldn't have to worry about that..

Good Luck..

Re: DIY Flowers?

I thought about it too. My sis worked in a florist so I may have her do the centerpieces. Still trying to decide if it's worth it...

Re: DIY Flowers?

I did my own bo-ks but I didn't want traditional flowers and made a bo-k of apples instead - it really wasn't very difficult - I made the bo-ks and bouts in a about 2 hours.

Re: DIY Flowers?

Im too afraid to do it wrong and then get stuck with no flowers for the wedding. Ive actually seen people use artificial flowers for DIY and they come out amazing. Plus its easier to use artificial flowers to play around with and practice.

Re: DIY Flowers?

I thought about it, but I LOVE real flowers and flowers were soooooooo important to me. It was the 1 thing I REALLY wanted to be perfect. Little did I know they would be horrible and NOTHInG like what I wanted. If I could do it over I would still do fresh flowers, but be VERY specific, and change florists. If you like fake flowers then by all means do it.

Re: DIY Flowers?

We did ours but they were evry very simple CP's-nothing like the beautiful but costly cp's you usually see on these boards. We just couldnt affrod it so we bought cheap but pretty glass vases and hurricaines and di our own for about 25 per table with flowers. Looking back I wish we'd been a bit more extravagent but they still photographed well. We had the florist do our bo-ks' costly but WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! LOVED my bouqets!!!

Re: DIY Flowers?

We did our own CP's, which were funkins and votive candles with scattered silk petals, Florist did the bouquets, and the dais, but she did the dais with us there, so we could bring in other items we had on hand and didn't necessarily need elsewhere.
Rule of thumb: If it's alive and needs handling in the week before your wedding, leave it to a pro. If it's fake and can sit in your house for six months, DIY in advance on the cheap.

Re: DIY Flowers?

On my wedding day my mom went to sams club and bought a bunch of flowers for the bm bo-ks. They turned out really nice. To save money she also bought potted cp of mums (our wedding was in the fall.) It worked out great. I was going to do my own bo-k but a florist contacted me and told me she would love to do my bo-k on the grounds that she wanted to break away from traditional bo-ks.
I would have done my own, but I also had some flora experiences. We did simple tie ups for my bm. I didn't want to waste money on corestes (spl). The men in my wedding weren't too keen on the whole idea of it. So I made everyone happy and had a great time.

Re: DIY Flowers?

If you can pull it off great! But the invitations were so much work, so I don't want the added stress of any more DIY.

Re: DIY Flowers?

I voted as 'other.' It's a tradition between my girlfriends that we make our own bridesmaid bouquet. The bride's bouquet of course will be professionally done, but we decided to have quality time the night before the wedding by sitting around making the bridesmaid bouquets..it's an awesome feeling.
