good christening gift from a godfather...?

Al's sister had a baby boy on Dec 21st - he was kind enough to wait for us to arrive in NY before making his appearance.

Anyway, Al's the godfather - what should he get the baby for his baptism?

I think the godmother will be getting a cross. And the baptism outfit was made by my MIL to be worn by all her grandchildren...any other ideas? The prayer book is a possibility.

Re: good christening gift from a godfather...?

I like the prayer book idea, b/c he will always have that, and be able to use it as he grows...first communion, etc.

I can tell you some of the gifts that Paul received for his baptism...his godfather gave his cross, his godmother gave him a gold St. Paul medal and his uncle gave him a silver spoon engraved with his initial. One of his great grandparents gave him an ID bracelet.

Was the baby named after a saint? The Saint medal is a wonderful alternative to the cross, if he wants the gift to have religious meaning.

Paul also received cash, stocks and bonds and those were nice gifts as well.

Thanks Claud - thats really helpful. No saint medal, unless there's a saint Alec that I don't know about.
