My dog is about a year and a couple of months old.. Every morning I take him out to pee...then he goes in his crate until i get home (unless Dh is home and he usualy is) but this morning he WOULD NOT go..and i was late for work and DH went to work with his brother for some extra $$ and i feel terrible, i keep thinking that hes sitting there holding it in... what should i do,.. i want to leave but since i only started this job in Dec.16tth.. i dont want to have to leave already, and DH's cell is must be dead cause i cant get through.. i am feeling horrible!!

I am the same way. I used to bring stray dogs home when I was younger and my mom was like 'Stop it!'

Re: My Poor Puppy
I wouldn't worry Suzanne...dogs are good at holding it in if you train them in their crate...anyone know when male dogs start to lift their legs?
our 9 month old still squats...

Re: My Poor Puppy
Some male dogs prefer to squat.I think mine did when he got old because of arthritis.Perhaps yours prefers to squat.

Re: My Poor Puppy
I wasnt able to go home for lunch, but DH aggreed that he needs to start to be able to hold it better, which is the reason for the crate still cause if i let him wander he pees everywhere.. so as much as it killed me i didnt go home (plus when i get home the get sooooo riled up and they hate when i leave)..and when i am home these dogs want to go out every 20 minutes, so i feel like all i do is cater to these dogs, he says i need to get firmer in order for them to be better..i hope hes right cause i havent stopped thinking about him all day!!

Re: My Poor Puppy
Suzanne, Arnold pees in his crate ALL THE TIME out of spite. I am SICK of coming home and giving him a bath, but if I leave him loose there's no telling what he'll destroy. I always feel awful for leaving him crated up, but what else can I do?? He holds 'it' in for 8 - 10 hours at night... why can't (or won't) he do it in the crate?Any ideas on how to train him??

Re: My Poor Puppy
I had this problem with BOTH my dogs, apparently they said the crate was too big... if he has room to pee and move to the other side so he cant sit in it then the crate is to big...the only time my big one has made this mistake was one time she had diarea and i guess had no choice (what a joy that was cleaning up LOL)they have crate separaters so you dont have to buy a new crate...
I think my little one pees on my bed sometimes and on the furniture out of spite when i am not looking..
EDITED TO SAY:HE DIDNT PEE!! YAAAY!!!!!! THAT LITTLE GUY HELD IT ALL DAY!! WILL HAVE TO GIVE HIM SPECIAL TREATS WHEN I GET HOME!!

Re: My Poor Puppy
Yay for Little Guy!!!
We have already cut the crate in half... he only has enough room to lie down, and he STILL pees and then LAYS IN IT!
He could be gone for 4 hours one day, and he'll be fine, or 45 minutes on another day and we come home to a puddle...
He is never spiteful or has accidents in the house, just in his crate. If you have any more suggestions, I'll take them!

Re: My Poor Puppy
i paid thousands of dollars in training... have you tried containing him to just the kitchen for a while.. maybe he just doesnt like the crate.. most dogs do but some do NOT...if hes little like mine than he cant reach anything enough to destroy it.. i have a large size baby gate that i put up when i dont want them to wander or when i want to seperate them.. it has been a god sent..plus if fell on both of them cause at first they try to attack it,. and it makes a LOUD noice when it comes down (this is when i just leaned it against the wall) and thank god but they didnt get hurt and now they are both SOOOOO afriad of it niether will try to jump it (not that they could)

Re: My Poor Puppy
We used to gate him in our mud room, but he learned to jump over the gate. We then stacked 2 gates on top of each other (about 6 feet high, total), but he got over that too! We were so baffled by that that we put him back in the mud room and watched through the window... he jumped up, grabbed the gate with his claws, climbed to the top, and jumped!!! We were amazed, but needless to say, that's when he was banished to the crate.
