Ever been to Quebec City?

Hubby & I are thinking of going for a week in August, I saw pics in a magazine and it looked so romantic and European. I figured since we can't afford to go to Europe we'll at least go to a French-Canadian city, close enough! We've been to Montreal so I'm just wondering if it's the same or different.

Re: Ever been to Quebec City?

I went there about 10 years ago with my family. I don't remember many specifics, but I remember it being really beautiful, definitely had the European feel to it, and I had a great time. I'd love to go back.

Re: Ever been to Quebec City?

I've been twice. I prefer to stay in Old Quebec City -- its soooo romantic and beautiful. There's horse and carriage rides around the city, cobblestone streets, little cafes and romantic restaurants. Beautiful old churches (literally....they are STUNNING in the snow). You can go visit the castle, theres a whole dowtown shopping center with little shops and stuff. There's an 'underground' shopping mall. Soooo much to do! You can go see the Ice Hotel (that was freakin amazing) and we ate at a place that makes their own Maple Syrup for breakfast one morning -- that was really really cool cuz they actually take you on a short tour right beforehand and show you how they make it and let you take a small jar of it home.

Also, Montreal is very nice too. There's a lot of bars and pubs in downtown Montreal. Other than that though, I found that there was less to do in Montreal. Then again, I went with friends and we rented an apartment and got trashed the whole week....so we probably missed a lot. OH...there;s a casino in Montreal (lots of fun!!!!!) and an amusement park -- both were pretty cool.

If I recall correctly, you can take boat rides on the Saint Lawrence River too, which would be pretty cool. And I know right as you cross into Quebec there's a restaurant that's actually located on Niagra Falls (the Canadian side of it) so you can actually eat right on the edge of the falls.

I kept all my brochures, so if you'd like me to check them to see what else they have listed to do in both places, I can FM you with all the details.
