Re: wine tasting in CA
Sonoma Valley has some great places. I have a phone interview in 20 minutes, I'll be back after that with some suggestions.(I live in San Francisco, so we've been up to Napa and Sonoma countless times. I owe others on this board (Mistyeyed and Regina?) some info on wine country too).

Re: wine tasting in CA
I went to Napa - it actually was a day trip. We both tickets which included the boat ride over and then a limo picked us up with a few other people and we visited 5 wineries and did tours and tastings. We had lunch in this really cute place and then took the boat back. It was so much fun and you don't have to worry about driving. I think the tour was called California wine tours and they had a few packages - maybe they will have a Sonoma one. Let me know if you need more info!

Re: wine tasting in CA
Sonoma Valley is about an hour past San Francisco. Los Angeles is 5-8 hours away from SF (depending on your route & traffic conditions). So, its FAR. Not a day trip by any means. 6-10 hours apart.

Re: wine tasting in CA
nope, sorry. napa and sonoma are close to each other in the same region. But there are some wineries south of SF, but the ones I know of are still a hike from LA.

Re: wine tasting in CA
I don't know LA that well. It doesn't seem that the climate would be conducive to grape growing...but perhaps there are some wineries I'm not familiar with

Re: wine tasting in CA
Temecula is wonderful - beautiful, great wineries, nice scenery, very close ( I believe about 90-minutes) from LA, about an hour from San Diego. I was actually just looking at pics from there a few minutes ago, and thinking how it was one of the best times of my life!!
