Wedding Day + Birthday?

Everyone in my family is suggesting that i get married on July 4, 2004 because i will get a better price for the reception. I wouldn't have minded the date if it wasn't my BIRTHDAY
Do any of you ladies see a problem with getting married on july 4 or getting married on your birthday? or does it seem like a good idea?

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

In my case I didn't get a break in price IN FACT I am getting married July 4th this year which is a FRIDAY but the catering halls treat it as if it is a saturday because most people have off since it is a holiday.. Good LUCK!

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

hmmm the only reason i'd be hesitant is that there's so few big things you get to celebrate every year .. so i wouldnt want two on the same day. that would be my only concern though .. but if that's fine with you then id say go for it! im getting married july 5th so i like that weekend

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I wouldn't want my wedding on my birthday, mainly because I wouldn't want my anniversary on my birthday. I'm a huge birthday brat - I celebrate for weeks!

We specifically avoided the fall, because both our birthdays are in September. We wanted to spread out the occasions throughout the year.

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I'm with Lisat, I'm a major birthday brat. I wouldn't want it on my birthday. I was also given an available date from a reception place and they definitely did not lower the price for 4th of July.

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I am getting married in November, my birthday was available, but there was no way I was getting married on my 30th, so I decided to get married two weeks later. I want two separate celebrations!

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I to am a birthday brat(we just call August my birthday month, I need much more than a day LOL). I could never share my birthday with my wedding day. I actually partially picked October because no one we know has anything in October & I like they idea that we will always (knock on wood) be able to get away for our anniversary without having other commitments to get in the way.

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I don't like the idea of getting married the day of my birthday ... I need my 'particular day'

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

ITA w/Avesur, we chose our date cuz there were no birthdays or holidays in that month so it'd be an separate event in itself

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I agree w/LisaT...not that I'm a birthday brat (my b-day doesn't really get that much attentio), but I just wouldn't want to have to celebrate both occasions together for the rest of my life.

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

The way it worked out, we got married the night before my husband's 25th birthday. Due to his school schedule and the availability of the temple - it was really the only date that worked. At first he wasn't so thrilled about it. But then he got used to it. We did a small birthday cake and sang a quick Happy Birthday after midnight. It was really cute and he actually liked the attention that he got. I promised him that I will not combine birthday and anniversary presents. However, I don't know how I would feel if the situation were reversed.

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

Hey! we had the chance to get married on FH bday! He was all for it (this way he would never forget our Aniversary ) but I felt I wanted our day to be OUR day. Our own special date and the only thing we would be celebrating.

JMO...If it doesn't bother you that I don't see a problem with it. Double the presents

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

We almost set the date for 2 days after my birthday, because we can only get married in July and there were 2 July dates available at our hall. Needless to say, we getting married 2 weeks before and I'm glad we're doing it this way. Can you get married the weekend before or after?

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

I would like my wedding day to be separate from all other occasions. Just gives you more to celebrate throughout the year!

Re: Wedding Day + Birthday?

my birthday is 3 days after christmas...so I would suggest also to separate the wedding day and birthday...my DH is the only person in my life who has wimped out and combined christmas and b-day gifts (granted our first year dating)

as for 7/4...if you want that day...book NOW!! I wanted 7/4, but the 2 halls that I wanted to book (Oheka and Land's End) were both booked 1 1/2 years in advanced...btw they both gave discounts...b/c it was a thursday

but in the long run...We are so lucky that we didn't get that day...b/c it was a heat wave!! although the chocolate on my placecards were sitting in customs that day and melted in their little packages...so I went around to my guests telling them that they looked funny...but were good to eat...
