Post Office Rant----UPDATE, Now even more pissed!
I was very excited to go to the post office to get my stamps on Sat so I could mail out my invites today. My RSVP is a post card and for some reason it costs more to mail the postcard than it does my whole invite. They said I needed to use a 62 cent stamp for the RSVP. It didn't make sense so I went to another post office and they told me the same thing. The people in both post offices were so rude. Why should a 1 page rsvppost card cost so much? Yes, it's a square, but it's still smaller and weighs much less than the invite.I am really sorry that you are pissed off that you have to work the day ater the 4th of July but it's not my fault. Also, the 59 cent stamp for the invite is so ugly. They really should give you color choices.Okay, so here's the part that really annoyed me...
I went to mail the invites this morning and I asked for them to be hand cancelled. The lady was like, 'I'll see what I can do', and flung my bag of invites onto another counter. I said (very nicely) that they are my wedding invites and it's very important to me that they don't get destroyed in a machine. She kept saying, I'll see what I can do.
I said, 'Are you positive that they will be hand cancelled?' She said, 'No, I don't guarantee anything.' I finally gave up and just asked, 'Are they at least going to be mailed today?' And, yet again, she said, 'I'll see what I can do.'
I offically hate the Huntington Station, Melville, and Camden Plaza post offices.
UPDATE:
A co-worker just received his invite. It was NOT hand-cancelled and the freaking thing was bent and horribly marked up. I am so freaking pissed!
My mom is calling the post office right now.

Awwww that stinks that you had to go through that. I do know that square always costs more which is why is even though i LOVE Square invites, i stayed away from them.i always send FH to deal with the Post office b/c I am not patient in the least and get huffy pretty quickly.
BUT YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your invites are out and now it's time to stalk the mailbox.

Re: Post Office Rant----kinda long, sorry...
the postage for the postcard maybe that much because of the shape, as for hand cancelling, there really is no guarantee that it will be done unless you stamp them youself. I know it took me 30mins to stamp mine, and i doubt many postal workers want to sit there and do that.

I'm sorry you went through that!I must ask the other posters on this thread, which post offices did you go to where you were able to hand cancel the invitations yourself? I live in Queens, and I asked at the Maspeth post office and the guy was pretty curt about it, something like, 'yeah, we do that, but not when it's busy.' I was going to check out a few more post offices in the area and see what they say.

I know I sound mean, but the post office shouldn't allow hand-canceling then. Since they do offer it, it should be part of their job---not just when they feel like doing it. I would have gladly hand-cancelled them myself, but was told that wasn't allowed.

they probably really arent supposed to let us do it, but they do it anyway. the clerk that let me do mine is familiar with me since i was in so much weighing my invitations. it is also probably best to go when they are not busy, or go to a smaller post office, and look for a happy face, the mean ones will definitely not let you do it.
ETA: u dont sound mean at all.

Jennifer, that's just nonsense!!! My understanding from my Lancaster, Pa. PO, was, if that expensive heart stamp was on the invitation, it HAD to be hand canceled!!!! But, then, how do we know they do it, when we are not around??!!!!!!! Sorry for you frustration!!!!!!!! Mary MOB

Awwweee...I dunno if you actually handed them in or if you took them back but that lady had no right to be rude to you!!!Next time, try the Deer Park post office. I used them for my wedding invites, and the lady was very very nice. She was polite and let me hand cancel them myself.

I offically hate the Huntington Station, Melville, and Camden Plaza post offices.
I work down the street from the Huntington one. And yes, they are a$$holes there. I refuse to use them. Jericho post office is the best. Hicksville is okay but Jericho is easier to get in and out of.

and jericho is a small post office, so you would have a better chance there. Hicksville is big & always busy, they are nice there though.
