Re: atkins/low carb

Hi! I started Atkins over a months ago, I think. Its not easy of you can't give up the carbs and sugar. I still miss grabbing a piece of fruit whenever I want it but it gets easier.

Sassy is very knowledgeable in the low carb area, I'm still learning (and cheating!), she can tell you some of the 'tricks' to eating low carb but not depriving yourself.

If you have any questions, ask away!

Re: atkins/low carb

It behooves all of us to cut down on carbs as they raise our triglycerides which is an indicator of heart disease.. I pretty much eat they way I always eat except instead of eating a pasta/rice/potato dish with dinner I make 2 different veggies so I don't feel deprived.

If you want to cut your carbs and not be a 'carb junkie' you sorta need to go cold turkey for a few days. (about 5-7). This means no carbs or sugar of any kind. This gives your body a chance to clean itself out. (after this stage you can eat some carbs). At this stage you shouldn't really eat more than 20-30 grams of carbs- this is about 3 cups of veggies. After the shock phase to the system you can eat pretty much all the non-starchy veggies you want.

Contrary to popular belief you cannot eat unlimited amounts of bacon or cheese.. you should limit both of these items to 2 ounces.

You can eat unlimited meat, chicken and fish.

Fruits you can eat are melons and berrys (and yes, you can eat them with whipped cream- redi-whip only has one carb).

You shouldn't really eat dairy, If you need to have coffee take it with half & half.

For more information on low carb diets or the science behind the low carb diets you should either read a low carb book or check out www.lowcarbeating.com

Re: atkins/low carb

Yeah.. there's tons of stuff. I actually go to a low-carb nutritional counselor. It's a little pricey, but worth it IMO. I have much more success with this than I ever did at WW.

It's carbwatchers.net
