SIL wants to wear Ivory...

So I went to visit my brother & SIL this weekend & she decided to show me her dress for the wedding. It's IVORY...IVORY..as in the same color as my wedding dress. I am sooo mad but I didn't say anything because I was so shocked..I actually said it was a pretty dress. What was I thinking? My mom said she probably doesn't know better. What do I do. She is super sensitive and might make a huge thing if I ask her not to wear it & anyway can I really tell someone what to wear? Uggh! I know it's probably not a big deal but it's really bothering me...any ideas?

(You are right though, it's not a big deal if she eventually does wear it, although some people might give her a side-eye.)

my FMIL bought an ivory dress and i told my FH to please tell her that Ivory maybe isn't the best color to wear to a wedding and she was fine wtih it and she got a silver one

i totally understand how that is annoying to you - maybe tell your brother to bring it up to her (but have it come from him and not from you)

Are people really this stupid??..........really??? My DH's brother's gf brought his Niece shopping and brought her home with a white dress I chalked it up to stupidity and let it go...although I did have fun passing a comment that if the flowergirl throws a tantrum, we will use her as a double

If it is bothering you that much than say something - you will feel better. You don't want this to be the 'pebble in your shoe' so to speak.

I agree - if she does end up wearing the ivory dress to your wedding, I am sure she will get the stink eye from the some of the other guests.

No one should be wearing White, Ivory or a shade of white other than the BRIDE! I would have said to her you realize only the bride should be wearing White. Maybe you should take to your FMIL or have your Fiancee do it.

i would ask FH to speak to FSIL or your FMIL and see if they can have her wear another color. Do people think?

I would have said, hey that's the same color as my dress! in a joking way and see if she caught on....if not, I would have someone else in the family bring it up

I'd have your mom say something.. just to nicely somehow mention that the color is the same as yours and it isn't really appropriate

I can't believe someone would be this dumb??? Everyone knows only the bride wears white/ivory to a wedding. Very innapropriate. I would have someone just tell her in general its not appropriate, not just to your wedding but to anyone elses.

No matter what color anyone wears, just remember you will be standing out, your the bride and no one can take your spot light. People would probably be laughing at her anyways.

Definitely have someome say something to her. Maybe she will be fine with it, thinking if she showed you and you said OK, it would be fine, and had you said NO, it would be fine. KWIM??? Good luck!

You need to say something because that is wrong. What person wears white or ivory to the wedding knowing the bride might be in that color.

Honestly...I think it's more embarrassing for her! Noone is obviously going to mistake her for the bride but I guarantee your guests will be talking! I went to a wedding where a guest wore an ivory dress and it was the talk of the wedding!

A girl at my cousins wedding last month wore and off white dress (she was married two weeks earlier - she should have known better). To be honest, I didn't even notice that night, I didn't realize the color of her dress til the next day when I was looking at pics.
Very few people will notice the color your FSIL is wearing, and those who do will know that she is a fool.

I'm sorry I know some people may not care but I would. No one should be wearing any shade of a brides' dress except for the Bride. I probably would have said something in the most polite manner possible. If she refused there would be a problem! lol

I don't get why she would think that's OK...Maybe you're FMIL or FH can speak with her about it and suggest she get another dress that isn't the same color as the BRIDE'S!
