NWR: Recommend Your Bank

We are currently at WAMU. We liked them initially and now we can't stand them. We were with Commerce prior to and we loved them, except for all the fees so we decided to do research thought WAMU was good and went with them. When we first opened we explained that we were getting married in a few months and would be doing a lot of withdrawing and depositing from savings....they never said a word about the fact that you can only do 6 online banking transactions for the cycle, so they ended up closing the savings account! What is that?? Anyway...we are thinking of going back to Commerce but wanted your thoughts and opinions on the banks you use?

WOW....I never knew that. I have WAMU and I love it. I have the free checks for life, and the payback rewards and all of it. I've never had a problem with them. Which branch do you go to?

What I love about Commerce is that they are always will to work with you to keep you happy. We just were incorporating a lot of fees at that time. I also loved their hours, they were perfect. WAMU opens at 9, which is hard for me bc i am on the road for work and they close at 6 and it is hard for me to get there before work so I end up having to run there at lunch. Commerce also made all funds available immediately..for the most part.

I joined the branch in Long Beach and end up using the one in Garden City. When I went to the one in Garden City they were shocked that they closed the savings account which made me be like I don't get it....soooo I want out of there. Especially because when you put a large amount of money in the bank they hold on to it foreverrrrrrrrrr. Commerce never did that it was always available.

Re: NWR: Recommend Your Bank

My sister uses Bank of America & likes them & Fh has an account at Chase for years & loves them hth

eta- besides wamu- I keep my savings in an INGDirect account which is FABULOUS- the interest rate is at least double any other account & if I need the money, I just transfer it into my wamu account

Re: NWR: Recommend Your Bank

I have Chase and FH has Astoria Federal and our joint account/wedding fund is at Teacher's Federal Credit Union.

I really love Chase and FH likes it too..once we're done with the wedding we'll be closing our Teacher's FCU account and opening a joint account at Chase. He's still going to keep his Astoria Federal because he's had it forever.

Re: NWR: Recommend Your Bank

I use WAMU & HSBC. I havent had any problems with WAMU transaction # wise, but maybe because I opened an online savings. I opened my checking through the branch though.

HSBC is gr8, I have been with them since H.S. the only thing I dont like is their online banking, transactions dont show up in the register right away, it usually take 24hrs, but other than that I havent had any problems with them.

Wachovia. I've been with them for years, was with them when they used to be First Union. I love them, zero complaints, I have a regular checking, a savings and a mm account with them. No fees for anything.

DH loves them too, he was with Commerce but switched over a few years ago and doesn't look back.

See I opened an online savings as well and they said I can only make 6 online withdrawals or transfers a cycle...is that the same with yours?

ok I am so glad u posted this. I just checked my statements & the most I have done is 4 transactions. I called them up & they did say 6 is the maximum by phone or online. You can do unlimited transactions through an ATM or @ a branch.

I wouldnt leave WAMU though. They are a really good bank. I will probably just move a large sum of $$ over when it is time to pay balances instead of doing multiple transactions.

Yeah see i've done a lot of payments for vendors, like our favors, gifts, and invites through paypal through the savings account and exceeded the limit but I explained to them the situation and they never told me that limit otherwise I probably wouldn't have gone with them..but it's too late now!

Re: NWR: Recommend Your Bank

i have commerce, but unlike most ppl on here i am not THAT crazy about them. Its ok when you just deposit or withdraw money but god forbid you have to do anything else it can be a parade. It took them 5 weeks to do something for me that should've taken 2 days. I was very upset about that and i do plan on changing soon. The worst part is that it would've continued past the 5 weeks until i had to sit with a manager on the phone and ask a million questions to see what was wrong bc they couldnt figure it out, and then I had to point something out to them of what they did wrong.

How much did they charge? is it per transaction?

FYI, pay for everything with a cc, paypal does not always make good decisions when u have to dispute things.
