09er crashing question about name change

Hey girls! Sorry to crash I just have a quick question. A lot of the checklists I am seeing advise to start the name change process prior to the wedding? Is that accurate? Did you girls do that or did you/are you waiting till after the wedding? Please let me know! Just curious! TIA!

definitely after the wedding. you can't change anything until you have your marriage certificate. i think you can start getting the DMV and SSA forms prepared beforehand, but that's really it.

probably the only things you can change are credit cards since u can do it right online. you need the marriage license for dmv, ss, & banks.

Oh my gosh I couldn't imagine doing it before, you need your marriage license to do it I think. I still need to do it officially and it's been almost a year! I've been introducing myself and getting any mail sent to me in my new last name though. I really need to get on that, it just seems like it is so annoying!

You should also wait until after the honeymoon if you are traveling by air or abroad. You wouldn't want to get stopped for your name not matching on that passport or drivers license. I think it takes a long time for the new passport to come in...

def not a stupid question, a lot of people say to start it b4 but i think they just mean strat filling everything out and getting what u need so when u get ur certificate everything is already to send out
