Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!! Reception site update!!!!

Tomorrow evening, Donna and I plan to go check out the Lancaster Elks Club, for the reception. A co-worker told Donna, about someone using silk flowers from AC Moore, for BM bouquets. Girls, I just don't know about this!! But, with all the saving ideas, I just have to keep reminding myself, the house Donna wants is more important to her than an expensive wedding. Still, She doesn't want a 'cheesey' looking wedding. I guess I should resume my search for a shower venue. Mary MOB

Re: Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!!

Hi Donna,

How about checking out restaurants with catering space, or even golf courses? As far as flowers, there are some beautiful faux flowers out there, my FMIL makes incredible arrangements that you'd swear are real! It can be done. Maybe just getting personal flowers from the florist and doing candle CPs could cut costs. Check out 1888flowermall.com for faux flowers!

Hello Donnas Mom!! I'm new here but my friend got married and they wanted to save money, so instead of flowers on the table she got these beauuutiful candelabras at michaels for the tables instead of centerpieces, and her local florist did the boquets for under 200! There are definitely ways to get around it! HTH Good luck!

Hi, Heather!!!! Thanks!! Lancaster County, Pa., cannot compare to all the great choices you gals in NY have. I have a feeling Donna will choose the Elks. Her Sister has had banquets there, and I too have been there to eat, and it's nice. I think Donna was impressed with the prices!!!

Hi, Katie!!! Congratulations to you and Chris!!! And thanks for the info. I think I'm going to do the reception centerpieces, but Donna has been trying to figure out how to lower the flower budget. Her last idea was for real flowers, her bouquet consisting of white and wine callas, and stephanotiis, with the BM's carrying one white calla lily. Of course there would also be 8 bouts, 4 Mom/Grandmom corsages, and one Church arrangement. I also plan to do the Church pew ribbons. Mary MOB

Thanks, Angela!!!!! I'm not too concerned about the Elks Club, as a reception site, but I just don't know about artificial flowers, as far as how they look. I'm wondering 'who' Donna has in mind to assemble these bouquets made with AC Moore flowers?? Me??????? I really don't think I could make them look professional. I did buy some silk calla lilies and stephanotis, and wine colored ribbon, to see what I can do. Mary MOB

Re: Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!!

Oh Mary I understand Donna's dilemma! I did not want to spend alot of money on flowers as well. I got an awesome deal from my florist which is why I did the high centerpieces.

What about going to a wholesale flower shop and putting the flowers together yourself? Maybe you can save some money by making the bouts, getting the BP their callas and possibly putting together Donna's bouquet yourself?

I googled 'wholesale flowers in Lancaster PA' so hopefully some of these places are near you...

Hey MOM!

I've been to the Lancaster Host Resort several times over the years to attend dance competitions, I love it there, that hotel is very nice. That whole area, Lincoln Highway, is full of hotels, have you looked there? Is there anything in the Hershey Park area? Or are these areas expensive because they are in tourist areas

Re: Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!!

Mary you can get some fantastic quality silk flowers at Michael's and the photograph very well. I was considering using silk for my wedding. I will try to upload the pictures for you later. If you can get flowers like calla lilies, peonies, tulips and hydrangeas that are made of rubber you will definately fool people. I think Michael's may have a better selection and quality then AC moore and if you purchase the flowers they will make the arranges for you.

Re: Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!!

I would definitely try buying flowers wholesale. Or another idea is to maybe use seeds and grow them in cute flower pots. Marigolds are so EASY to grow.
Then maybe just get the personal flowers from the florist.

Re: Ok, let's get down to the wedding business!! Reception venue update

Hi everyone!!! Appreciate all your suggestions!!! Tonight Donna, Debi, and I checked out the Lancaster Elks. In addition to the wedding coordinator never calling ME back, she also failed to show for Donna's appt. tonight, leaving the bartender to show us the upstairs ballrooms. After some discussion, we all thought 'no' to the Elks Club. Then, we went to the Lancaster Liederkranz, not far from the Church where the ceremony will be held. Donna plans to talk to the person in charge tomorrow. But it sounds hopeful.

Outside of the Liederkranz

The inside pics of the ballroom, do not do it justice, because it has been remodeled.
