Need some help......moving...update!!

We have the opportunity to move from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom. The downside id that we currently have a Washer & Dryer. The new place will not have that, the next is electric stove. I am so not used to that. My concerns are that I will hate going to do laundry. I have been luck y with the washer and dryer. This is really the only thi g holding me back. I don't know what to do!!!

Our landlord is considering putting in a washer & dryer for us!!! We are so excited. Also if anyone is looking for a 1 bedrom Apt in Kings Park, fm me & I will give you details!!!

Re: Need some help......moving

you have to decide what is more important - having more space than a 1 bedroom, or having a washer/dryer, but continuing to live in your 1 bedroom apt

for me, i would SOOOO much rather have the washer & dryer...i HATED going to the laundry mat when we lived in out apt...but thats just me!!

is the new place a whole lot bigger than your place now?

I would continue to look as well. My place now doesnt have a washer/dryer and a DH continue our hunt that is a must have on my list.

i have a laundry mat in my building so i dont mind. But we are also allowed to have washer and dryers in the apartment if we want. But again this depends on where you move, if its a 2 family house or something similar, many times they wont allow you to use a washer and dryer. Are you moving into a building or in a house?

Re: Need some help......moving

make a list of pros and cons.

Having laundry must be a huge plus! Will the new place have laundry on your floor?

Do you need the extra room? Are you planning to have a baby in the next 1-2 years? Do you really really need the extra space?

Is it the same price for the 2 bedroom?

You get used to gas. I grew up with electric and then moved in the city and had gas. It scared the crap out of me. Now I prefer it. So dont let that be an issue. :)

Is the quality of the apartment better or just as good?

Just some things to think about. :) good luck!

Re: Need some help......moving

also, if you want to move to a 2 br then you can keep searching for other 2 br apartments that will have a washer and dryer

Re: Need some help......moving

the only reason i would move into an apt. with another bedroom is if we planned on having a baby soon....if that's in the equation then i would probably make the sacrafice and do it... other than that?? NO WAY!!! lol i have been super spoiled by having a washer/dryer & dishwasher right in our apt...i would not exchange that for more space if i didn't NEED the space right now. good luck with ur decision

Re: Need some help......moving

It is definetly bigger & we are planning on having kids very soon. Also his parents want to visit and in a 1 bedroom it isn't possible. It is in a 2 family house, main floor, backyard (which we don't have now). Laundromat is literally across the street. I just spoke to DH and he thinks we should go for it! It is with the same landlord we have now and not too much more than we ar e paying for the 1 bedroom, Thank you girls for your help. I think my mind has been made and we are going to go for it!!!

oh then go for it, if you plan to have kids very soon and need the room for his parents to visit then seems like the way to go. The whole laundry mat thing will be fine and if its across the street then not bad at all. Its hard to adjust at firs to if you are used to having it now but wont take long to adjust. Plus the good part is that if you dont have time to do it, you can drop it off for them to do it for you.

i think you should go for it, it sounds like you guys already made up you mind but need some reassurance. It sounds like you are getting some extras bonus for not much more money. Yes you have to give up the washer/dryer, but theres one across the street. Good luck in what ever decision you choose

Re: Need some help......moving

we moved from a 2 bedroom apt to a 2 bed townhome bc it had more space and yet it was cheaper! that being said we did sacrifice having a washer/dryer inside our place (tho its next door to us we still have to go outside, etc), no pool like our other place, etc. It was worth it for us bc of the drop in price. you just have to weigh whats more impt to you- space or having your washer dryer. id say its not a horrible sacrifice if youre somewhat near the laundry. DH brings clothes in and out of there. Just think thats safer.

from your situation id say its worth upgrading!

Re: Need some help......moving

I live in a two bedroom in a two family house with a backyard and basement and no laundry...honestly it's awesome.

DH & I go on Fri/Sat/Saun evening depending on our plans and put ALL the laundry in 1-2 machines at once..then go grocery shopping while it's washing. Come back and put it in the dryer and then go back about 1/2 hour later and we bring it home and fold while we watch tv. I like that ALL of my laundry gets done at once, it's around the corner and it's just so easy.

I would totally go for the bigger space!

Re: Need some help......moving

YOu girls really are a big help. It is so nice hearing from people that aren't 'involved' if you know what I mean!! I told DH that we should go for it and he agreed! So it looks like it is going to be back to the laundromat for me, unless I can find a good portable washing machine!! Thanks again girls you are the best!

its really not bad at all. I understand the convenience of doing it in your own home, but there are also pros to doing it at a laundromat. One thing that i like is that i can do ALL the clothes at once. OUr laundry really piles up, dh's laundry alone is insane hahaha, he has his work clothes, then he plays softball a few times a week so that really adds up, then what he sleeps in, plus when we do things he wears other things. The good thing is that i can wash whites, colors and darks all at once and dry them all at once. Plus you can do larger loads. Theres times i have to wash all our towels plus sheets and it takes up alot of space. At dh's parents house i used to wash clothes there but to do all the loads and dry them it can take very long. This way i wash ALL our clothes, this week i had 3 laundry bags to do dont ask hahaha, but all the clothes got washed in 30 mins and then 45 mins for all to dry since i was able to use about 4 dryers at one time. Do your laundry when you also have to go food shopping and other things, i dont do this now since its in my building but when i lived in astoria i used to go to a laundromat. This way you tell Dh to come with you, put the clothes in the wash, go food shopping or do whatever else you have to do then come back put it in the dryer, and you can do other errands if you have to.
