Marriage License Question

Did you need an appointment to get your marriage license? And also do they mail it to you or do you take it with you the day you go. FH works til 6 every day so the only day we can go are Mondays.. But we cant today and next Monday is a holiday so we cant go until the 20th and our wedding is Nov 2nd.. Is this cutting it close?

You don't need an appt...but I would go early so you don't have to wait. where are you going?

you take it with you that day, so no worries about not getting it in time.

We are going to the Brookhaven office in Farmingville.

I went to brookhaven and it's a good thing you can go on mondays because that is the day they are open later. I just went a week ago, and it was fast no appointment needed. They give you the marriage liscense and you have to bring it with you to the wedding!

We went without an appointment and took it with us that day so that should be plenty of time.

We went today to the one in Massapequa -- it took us 15 minutes. No appointment -- walked in and out. You take with you what you need your officiant and witnesses to sign and then that gets mailed in and the final copy gets mailed to you within a few weeks.

no appointment here!!! and it was actually pretty quick. the earlier you go the better though. We just brought ours to the priest friday

I was also at the Brookhaven office last week. Make sure you re read and really proof the license. I didn't notice till I got the license, which came within the week we were away, that my DOB was incorrect. Luckily, I caught it right away and they fixed it there and then. Also, if you are to bring it that day, give it to a designated person. We forgot ours We were at the beach taking pictures when the realization hit me! I had to call my mom to get into my hotel room to get it....

Please don't say you're cutting it close! FH and I are doing it on Wednesday and getting married on Saturday. We really couldn't do it any other way, as we live in North Carolina.

We went last night. We got there at 6:05 and were out by 6:20. No appointment. It was sooo quick and we walked out with it in our hands. We went to the town offices in Brookhaven

Hi Date Twin!!

Not sure about LI, but here in Queens we only needed our driver's licenses. If you call the exact location where you'll be going, they may be able to tell you what you need. I called 311 and asked for 'Marriage Bureau' at the Kew Gardens Courthouse and they connected me. I just wanted to confirm all details before FH and I showed up without the correct documents or money order amount.

That's another thing... you can pay for your license either by money order or by credit card. The line was long even though we were there early. I had gotten the money order the day before to save time on line at the courthouse. So you may want to bring it with you so they don't make you wait on a different line.

Also bring a black pen with you!! I forgot that, and the license application can only be filled out in black ink. So we had to wait for people to finish writing w/ the pens attached to the counter.
