Re: New Home Construction
Where are you looking to have a home built? We are in the process of doing this, but we are buying the property from my FH's parents. There are homebuilders on William Flloyd Parkway that build on thier land mainly, Davis Homes, Menu of Homes, Jenna Homes, and there ia also one called Springwood Homes on Nichols Road in Smithtown. I am not sure about development type builders though. The first step is to have a piece of land, because that usually determines the size of the home etc.

Re: New Home Construction
Since we both work in the city we wouldn't move to Suffolk county. And there is not much land in Nassau (that we have heard of) so we are thinking we would look into the Westchester area (or the outskirts of)The issue is we have no clue where to find land for sale.

Re: New Home Construction
I am not sure, but I think you could probably contact a real estate agent in that area. Even if they don't handle it, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: New Home Construction
When we were looking, we used to just drive around and then write the numbers down of the new developments that were going up.Sometimes you can also look online for builders.
Do a goole search for 'new construction, westchester' and maybe you'll find some leads.

Those sites have beautiful houses but $900,000 is a 'little' out of our leagueEven the ones in Dix Hills are a fortune. Jodi did you marryy a millionaire?
This house hunting thing isn't as much fun as I thouhgt it was going to be

Re: New Home Construction
Jen, I feel your pain! The market is absolutely insane. My DH works in the city so we can't be too far either. We've been searching in Nassau, and it's discouraging enough just looking at 50-70 yr old houses, let alone new developments! I think any new development within a reasonable commuting distance to the city will be a PRETTY penny these days.I know friends who are buying out in Suffolk, and it's so tempting to look out there, but I know I'd never see my hubby if we lived that far away from the city
Did you ONLY want new developments, or are you open to resells as well?

Re: New Home Construction
Don't know what price range you're looking for, since you're looking into new developments, but I know that my builder is waiting on permits for a 40+ homes in Lake Grove. They're definately NOT anywhere near $900K LOL.
It's about an hour out of the city though...maybe an hour and 1/2 door to door.
Let me know if you want more info.

We're in the same boat. We decided to look for a place to rent, but that's becoming an obstacle course too!!! My Girlfriend here just bought land in New Jersey and is having her house built. There's a lot in NJ- just depending where you want to live.Sorry I couldn't be more help to you....

Re: New Home Construction
I wouldn't be oposed to Jersey depending on the commute. I work in Lond Island City so Grand Central would be easier to get to and from. Where in Jersey is she building?

Re: New Home Construction
Jenhos, just be sure about the commute. We first bought a house in Selden, which is close to Lake Grove 2.5 yrs ago. I work in Hicksville, so I drive and Mark works in the city. His commute was about 2 hrs each way on the train, and mine driving was 1 hour driving, a lot more if the weather was bad, and god forbid there was an accident. We ende up selling and buying in Merrick b/c we could not take the commute anymore.Welcome New Vendors
