Good news for Yankee fans

Although they haven't said how much this will cost us...

Yankees coming to Cablevision

03/12/03) MANHATTAN - Cablevision and the YES Network hammered out an agreement early Wednesday evening. It is confirmed that the YES Network will be carried on Cablevision this season after the two sides reached a tentative agreement in their yearlong dispute. The basic problem was YES' insistence on basic cable channel status; a request that 35 regional cable companies, with 5 million customers, agreed was fine. Cablevision instead wanted to make YES a premium network and charge subscribers $2 a month.
Cablevision and YES have entered into a one-year interim agreement beginning March 31. If they fail to reach a permanent agreement by February 1, 2004, both sides agree that the dispute will go to binding arbitration. YES carries 120 out of 162 regular season Yankee games.

YankeeNets, which owns the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets, is the controlling owner of the YES Network. YES broadcasts Yankees games, Nets games and Seton Hall basketball games. The channel went on the air last April. Cablevision owns Madison Square Garden, the MSG Network, and the New York Knicks and Rangers. Cablevision is also the parent company of News 12.

Well, at least when I visit my family I will be able to see more games. For the reset of the season I'll just have to wait for them to play the Orioles so I can catch the games on tv down here in MD.

Whenever any of my fellow Yankss fans get irritated by The Boss, let me know and I will tell you stories about Peter Angelos, owner of the Orioles. Whew, he makes Steinbrenner look like a boyscout
