Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

I would say call your dentist right away and explain the situation. I had a lot of dental work done and my insurance ran out so they put me on a payment plan. We just paid the last payment last month! I'm sure if you put it off it will only be worse. If your dentist isn't willing to help you, call around and find someone that will help. This isn't something that you can just leave open. Good luck! I know how frustrating dental work is.

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

They usually have payment plans that they can set you up on. They may be able to put a temporary filling in it to hold you over until you have coverage. I had to get a root canal and crown which wasn't covered and it cost me $900 but I did the crown months later so it wasn't so bad. I had a temporary for a few months.

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

Same thing happened to me with a molar that was mostly filling.
I wound up with a crown and a root canal in the tooth.

It is a pricy thing, but since you don't have dental insurance, see if the dentist will let you do a payment plan.

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

Call and ask your dentist how much it would all cost you and say you dont have a dental plan. Some will be great and will give you a good price but be careful bc others won't. Also ask people you know how much it cost with their dentist. Prices can vary greatly.

Last year when I went to DH's dentist, i had a dental plan but as you know most are only like $1500 or so and i had just $1500. I had 2 root canals and when i had to call up for a follow up appointment, the lady on the phone told me i owed $2500. So i said oh ok well i have a dental plan so since its $2500 and my plan is $1500 then i owe $1000 out of pocket right? she said NO we used up the $1500 you had and now you owe an additional $2500 this dentist charged about $2k for each root canal which is ALOT. Oh and plus after the appointment she said it would be about another $900 . I was upset bc I felt that when they saw how much everything was going to cost and saw what i did have on my dental plan they should've talked to me first and say listen its all going to cost x amount, so after everything you will owe over $3k out of pocket. The funny thing is that not only did they charge SOOO much but they messed up it, broke my apex when doing my root canal which caused an infection and is the reason i have to go to the dentist now to get all this fixed and in the end had to extract tooth bc of what they did lol.

This time i went to my moms dentist whom i know works with you on prices and helps you out. He saw i have $1500 so he said he is going to do as much as he can for that amount. I had extraction, getting a crown, and he is also able to give me an implant for $600 which is usually $1800. Then a crown on the other side after the implant grows in. Then another tooth fixed too. Basically now im fixing any little thing bc i can.

thats great that he at least is able to do that and was smart for him to say to wait until your insurance kicks in for next year.

YAY that will be great. I am not sure how well i can eat thanksgiving dinner but i will try my hardest lol

The work itself doesnt hurt dont worry.

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

something similar just happened to DH. He had such bad pain from 2 of his wisdom teeth that he had no choice but to get them taken out even though we don't have full dental coverage until January. It ended up costing $1300, but at least the dentist only did what had to be done right away, and DH is going to try to wait to get the rest done until January. Hopefully your dentist will be understanding only do what really needs to be done so as not to run up your bill. good luck!

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

I'm so glad they were able to help you! A temporary crown is better than nothing! Now that my insurance kicked back in I have to have this root canal finished and a crown. Then I need my other 2 wisdom teeth out. Good luck with the dental work-it's much more bearable if DH takes care of you!

Re: please read if you have had dental work done without coverage

Some have payment plans or you can apply for a carecredit card. Its like a credit card but for dental and medical visits. Most dentists accepts this. You should be able to apply for it there.
