Re: Greek Brides??
We are only spending a limited amount of time in Athens. See the games and out! I'm not very fond of Athens. Then we are going to Xios (DH's origins) for a little over a week and finally to Lamia (where my family is from).
I'm hoping that we can travel further north like up to Halkidiki, but we'll play it by ear. I have never been any further north then Lamia.

Re: Greek Brides??
You're going to have a great time! I would love to see some of the pictures you take at the Olympics!
I love Halkidiki, more so than any of the islands. You should also go by Thessaloniki if you go that north, it's my favorite city, but then again I'm biased since I'm from there.
Have a very safe trip!!

Re: Greek Brides??
Have a wonderful time in Greece. I'm so jealous. I just got back from vacation myself. Now, it's back to work....boo hoo.
I've been to Halkidiki too...it is absolutely beautiful. The beaches are incredible.
Since you are from Lamia, I'm sure you know this but you can also take a ferry boat from Agios Kostandinos or Kamena Vourla (not sure which one) to Skiathos.....beautiful as well.
Have fun!

Thanks! I started yesterday & everything went ok, now I have my second class on Thursday night, I'm just so anxious for the first few weeks to be over, I graduated college in 2000 & I just don't know how I'm going to adjust to studying again.
I'm so excited FH & I finally booked our photographer on Saturday! Now we still have to book the florist, limos & I have to start looking for my dress, I haven't even begun to look!
Do any of you have pictures of how the church was decorated for the wedding? If so can you please post them?
Thanks!!

My daughter did this past May. It was beautiful. What would you like to know?
I tried to create a link to my pictures but I can't do it.
If you want to see you can go to 'My wedding" on top and then "Photo albums". Click on Album Index. Mine will be number 4.

Re: Greek Brides??
What is everyone's favorite Greek restaurant?
I really like Telly's Taverna in Astoria & Mythos in Flushing. FH & I recently went to Thalassa in Tribeca & it was really good also.
Does anyone know of any really good ones in LI?

Re: Greek Brides??
I agree that Mythos has really great food, but I'm tired of the cafeteria-like atmosphere. You should try the relatively new one on Plandome Rd. in Manhasset - Mykonos. It's a couple of blocks north of Northern Blvd. We've been there twice so far. It's doing really well and the food is very good.

Re: Greek Brides??
Molyvos in Manhattan is also good - a bit on the pricey side - but the food was so delicious!
I like Stamatis in ditmars (NOT the one on Broadway).
I've heard Estiatorio Mylos in Manhattan is good although i've never been -
I also recently went to Anna's corner in Ditmars - omg - they have GREAT gyro - and I hate gyro normally - i went on Saturday with my fiance and koubaro and his fiance - we had spent the day looking for stefana/ lambades and favors - after finally choosing stuff (i am SO darn picky - i was looking for the old stefana that had the orange blossom but the verdict is they dont make them anymore. My luck though - i found the EXACT pair that I wanted at Kentrikon and they told me that it was the girls mother's stefana and she was passing it down to her daughter - UGH! just when i thought i lucked out!)
i ended choosing stefana from Kentrikon that had crystals, porcelain and pearls - it was seriously the ONLY pair i liked. We also chose our lambades from Kentrikon - i love their work - it is SO pretty and different - it was pretty much a branch of pearls which she was to add satin roses to - i loved that it was so different.
The favors we chose we from Markella's though - we seriously went to 5 different stores in Ditmars (Markellas, eleni's, Astron, George's hellenic gifts, and Kentrikon). Kentrikon was the last place where i chose the stuff - i though our koumbaro was going to kill me - bec i was being so picky - i just didnt want the same old crystal favor that you see at every wedding -
I think i might have a pic of the lambada - although it might not be the best - i'll post it later -

Re: Greek Brides??
Georgia - I don't have my Stefana yet, my Koumbara is going to Greece in February for her cousins wedding and she's going to purchase them there. I told her that I want something very simple, I like the very plain stefana that just have pearls around them. Yours sound beautiful! When you pick them up, please take pics & post them, I would love to see them! Wouldn't any of the places you went to custom make stefana with the orange blossoms you wanted. It doesn't seem like it's an impossible request. Congrats on picking out the boubounieres!

Re: Greek Brides??
I have to try Mykonos in Manhasset, when FH & I want I go out for Greek again, we'll try it out!
I've been to Mylos & it was ok, I wasn't too impressed, but that probably has alot to do with the fact that I didn't like what ordered, I wanted to try something new! I've also heard Molyvos is really good, I've gone to Oceana which is owned by the same people & the food was sooo good, so I really want to try Molyvos.

Re: Greek Brides??
May 15, 2005, what great date - my daughter was married May 15, 2004!!!
If you prefer less oil on your food, you should mention it at Mykonos. The first time we went, I didn't like my food swimming in oil and my husband had to convince me to go back a second time. I mentioned it and they were very understanding. The fish was fresh and extremely delicious, with very little oil this time. It helps to speak to them in Greek too. The owner insisted on refilling our wine glasses.
Where is Oceana?
I was hoping to hear other responses to the original question. Any other Greek restaurants on LI worth going to?

Oceana is on 54St btw Madison & Park. The food is really, really good, I can probably say it's one of my favorite restaurants in the city, it's mostly seafood, but their non-seafood items are really good also. If you go, try to request a table in the upstairs room, I don't like the decor on the main level.
Thanks for the tip about Mykonos, I'll make sure to tell them I don't like my food with too much oil.
I remember FH telling me that there's a really good Greek restaurant in Suffolk, I can't remember how far out it is though, I'll ask him if he remembers the name of it later, but it's probably too far to just go for dinner. He said they have the best lamb he's ever had (that's not a selling point for me since I hate lamb).
Not only is my wedding day the same as your daughters, but we're using the same band!!
How is your sons planning coming along?

Re: Greek Brides??
What a coincidence - Delta is great! It surpassed all our expectations. Are you also requesting a violin or a clarinet? I'm sure you know that's separate, but we had a violinist. He was fantastic.
Planning a son's wedding is so very different. Thank you for asking. Everything is coming along beautifully but besides my gown, there's not much for me to do at all. Plus it's in NJ, so I can't even offer to help decorate the church or any of that. For my daughter we did everything, from making the favors to decorating the pews and the lambathes. It was the best year of my life!
We love seafood, so definitely Oceana will be on our agenda. Suffolk is also very doable for us, so I'd love to find out the name of that restaurant - and I LOVE lamb! LOL!
Take care and all the best. Mary
