I'd love to have both, but I don't know if I can afford it

Re: Greek Brides??

I only had a band. Olga, I was very happy with Accoustics but their american music is a little weak. (FYI). I didn't mind that much because we wanted mostly greek anyway. We paid $3500 for 5 hours & a klarino, plus key boardist during cocktail hour (1hr).

If you guys need a DJ, try Europa Sounds. The contact is Steve, 516-790-5909. They are awesome. Several of my cousins used them for various functions.

Good luck girls!

Re: Greek Brides??

It's ok - we really don't want much english. Is there anyway to get a band to put on like an english cd or something??

Re: Greek Brides??

I think they will do it b/c I gave them cds for intro, first dance, father/daughter, mother/son & last dance.

Re: Greek Brides??

If that's the case, then that will work. They seem reasonable priced. About how old are the Accoustics - like the individuals how old?

Re: Greek Brides??

I would say late thirties, early forties...but I'm not sure. I think they work with various lead singers (?? not sure but ask them)......the guy we had is named Christos. He is really good.

They were much cheaper than all the other bands we researched.

Re: Greek Brides??

Hi girls! I'm going to butt in here too, sonce I'm Greek even though I'm already married. I think I've chatted with some of you in FM. Anyway, just wanted to share my experiences:

Bands: They are unbelievably expensive!! We had Papastefanou and along with the DJ, violi and clarino (I'm from Kefalonia and DH is from Chios) we paid $4800. The truth is - he was wonderful! The kefi was unbelievable and I was glad we had him. So I highly recommend him, but the thing is that I got the same price quote from some of the lesser known bands too so don't be surpirsed by what you hear in terms of $$$!

Also, if you guys have the opportunity to buy anything from Greece - do it! Greece carries such beautiful things. My mom bought my stefanothiki and eikones from there - I wanted dark wood with sterling silver. And we saw the same thing here for almost twice the $$$.

For boubounieres, we went to Noufaro in Astoria because they have the most updated styles and best prices there. There is a small place on Ditmars right off Steinway called 'Eleni's' or something. She also has gorgeous things - the wrapping she does is very unique and chic (not the usual white paper). But she is super expensive IMO. Noufaro also has updated stuff with nice wrapping, but their prices are better.

Anyway, sorry I'm babbling. Hope this helps.

Re: Greek Brides??

Ugh - bands are ticking me off - other than papastefanou I don't know where to go =( WHY IS HE BOOKED GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I want a non-yucky greek band who can sing english without that horrible accent =( I have a feeling we'll settle for a dj and I really want live music! Acoustics just called me and said I need to book ASAP but I'm not supposed to see them until MAY 17th!!!!! ughhh total venting because FItobe says its to early to even be thinking about music!

Re: Greek Brides??

It's not too early because good bands get booked years in advance. Do not book anyone without hearing them first. Why can't they hold the date for you? I wish I had my wedding video to show you but it's not ready yet.

Re: Greek Brides??

The band with Olympia and her husband is singing at my cousin's wedding in July. He said they booked her because they'd seen her someplace else and she was excellent. (Papastefanou was already booked on their date.) They aren't sure about the American stuff though - I think they're having a DJ for that.
Honestly, the DJ with Papastefanou was not that great. Not even one person danced so I told them to start playing Greek music again after 2 or 3 songs - literally!
For $5000, I was making sure everyone danced!!! With the Greek stuff, noone sat down. So I guess my advice is, if you book Papastefanou, either get another DJ or be very specific with him about the music you want.

I am not greek but my fiance is. We're getting married at St. Demetrios in Astoria.

We're probably going to used The Aegean Connection as our band.
