Car Keys

I was just reading Aliaspook's post about her getting robbed (I hope everything works out for her), and I was just thinking about how she said she had to replace her car keys. The point of this whole story is that I had just made up a spare key for my car from the original key,(I have a 1999 Cougar) and because it has a computer chip in it, it cost me $150! I was also told that if I had lost the original key, that it would cost about $1000 to get a new key made up because they have to reprogram the computer. My neighbor works for Toyota, and he said the same thing, that it costs about that much to get another key made up for thier cars also. I had bought my car used, so I didnt have a spare key, but I would recommend that anyone who has a key with a computer chip in it to invest in a spare key (even if you already have one), just in case it gets lost. Just a thought, I dont want anyone to have to go through that.

Valerie

Re: Car Keys

That is a good idea. My car has a micrchip too. I lost the valet key, and used my spare for my automatic start.
