Tipping your Matre D???

Im getting married at Crest Hollow and just had an appointment with our coordinator who told us that we should tip our matre d like $900 and bridal attendane $100. Im having about $250 people. Is this crazy or is it just me? How much did you guys tip?

If we are paying 20% service charge then why do we have to tip the service so much??

Re: Tipping your Matre D???

They say 3-5 dollars per person attending but I think that is crazy! I totally agree with you. I am going to put 300 dollar in the envelope and at the end of the night if he ***** I will give less.

Re: Tipping your Matre D???

I only gave 500. I got screwed out of a half hour of my wedding cause the previous ceremony ran way over so i was mad they wouldnt let us stay longer. They tried to make up for it with free stuff like wine on each table, a cordials bar and chocolate fountain but i was still really mad.

Not true...if you are paying a gratuity, the waitstaff's tips are included in that...the Maitre d's tip is not.

To the OP: the average tip is between $3-$5 per person. $900 is ridiculous....We paid ours $400 for 100 guests, and my bridal attendant $100.

It actually goes to the behind the scenes people who work at the reception hall....when I asked my banquet manager he laughed and said if the matre D got that much for a 5 hour party, he would quit his job and do that instead...it really does not all go to the Matre D

ask anyone who works as a waiter at a cartering hall they never see that money.. you are better off giving the maitre D some money and giving each waiter a tip personally - better yet give it to them before the reception!!

well maybe your place is kind enough to share the $$ but thats prob not the case very often. but on the other do you think your BM is going to really tell you they dont give it to the waiters????

My brother waitered at the CARLTON and NEVER saw ANY money front he maitre D for these ridiculous expensive weddings people have there. the only tip he saw was if someone at the table he waitered gave him a tip
