How about Vermont...to a nice bed and breakfast. There are so many pretty ones up there. Or even a weekend out to Gurney's in Montauk is beautiful!

Mystic, Connecticut is beautiful during that time of year. There's the water and the shopping and Foxwoods is near by if you like to gamble.

The Blue Ridge Mountain area of VA is beautiful in the fall. Last Sept FH and I were in Charlottesville. We stayed in a B&B and went hiking during the day - all the leaves had changed - it was so beautiful!

My fiance and I goto this quiet B&B in Deep River Conneticut. It is very cute & cozy. Try thier website at www. riverwindinn.com.It is like a 1/2 hour from Mystic and in a cute small town.

I was going to say Martha's Vineyard, but someone beat me to it. My friends went there for their honeymoon last year, it was really inexpensive, beautiful cuz the leaves are changing, and they loved it.

Re: looking for a weekend getaway in September?
You can do a weekend in upstate NY. Last year FI and I went to Monhonk Mountain house in New Paltz. It is gorgeous! A little pricey though. And them we toured some wineries up there and took a historical walk. Next I would say Block Island.
