Is anyone a medical receptionist??? NWR

Okay I know this has nothing to do with weddings but if anyone saw my other thread knows i need to get out of my current field. I was wondering how difficult it was to get into being a medical receptionist and what I would need to know and if anyone knows if there is a course or something I could take. Also about how much the pay is? You can FM me if you rather not say on here. Thanks!

Re: Is anyone a medical receptionist??? NWR

Hi

I was a med receptionist in college (I worked nights and weekends at a very busy internal med practice in new hyde park). Depending on what type of office it is, it can be very busy and overwhelming having to deal with phones, patients and referral forms. Maybe even some cranky people who you have to keep in mind, since they are there, might not be feeling too great! The pay wasn't too great for me but I was a student so the most I made was $10/hr. The full time people probably made about $15-$20/hr. It all depends on where you work. I don't know of any courses, maybe there are, but you do get to know alot about medical terminolgy and prescription info. I worked with a great group of people so I really enjoyed it. I don't think it is too difficult to into the field, LI is packed with medical offices, send your resume to tons!! What do you do now? (Sorry i didn't see your other threads).

Jen

Re: Is anyone a medical receptionist??? NWR

Hi Jen- Thanks for the info! I am a manager in a retail store and hate it!!! Hate the hours, people I work with and sometimes the customers. I can definatly deal with difficult people and multi-tasking ( I have been doing it for 8 years!!!) I really would just like to work with more responsible people and not work retail hours. Also I am on my feet for 8 hours straight and my feet are starting to give into that. Not to say I expect to sit on my butt the whole time I am at work but it would be nice not to have to stand for the whole time!!

I don't know if you saw my other post for you, but I used to manage a store and left to be a medical receptionist. It is not hard to get into, but it can be stressful depending what kind of office you work in. I worked in a large group in pediatrics. Different offices pay more than others.
