Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
Hey girls! I need serious help. Ok, we just moved in to our house in North Babylon last month. For the last month, I have been spending a fortune at the food stores. Mind you, we are now entertaining! I just can't believe how expensive it is to buy food for the week, not to mention entertaining. And we don't even have kids yet, its scary! We don't even eat a lot!I need to know which store out of these three do girls think you get the most for your money in:
Pathmark
Waldbaums
Stop & Shop
Now, mind you, I try to cut out my coupons, but I have to admit I am not as good as Anna! :) When we were living with his parents we would go to the local Meat Farm (IGA) type store. I found the prices there to be less expensive. Not groceries but on meats. However, I can't find one by me except for Commack with is like 10 miles away. Hubby will think I am crazy if I drive 10 miles to go to the grocery store. Please give me some suggestions, ANNA WHERE ARE YOU! :) Thanks, girls.

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
I would try going through the flyers for each of them and circle what you need and see who has what for how much ... then just go to those certain stores and just pick up the specific items that are on sale... and try not to do any impulse buying.

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
all three are goodWaldbaums and stop n shop tend to have better sales
plus, Pathmark only double coupons up to like 40 cents
stop and shop and waldbaums double up to $1.00
only plus of pathmark is if you go to
www.pathmark.com
every week, they give two things away for ONE CENT
however, I find more buys and save more money w/ my coupons at waldbaums and stop n shop
also if you know anyone who works at waldbaums, you can use their 10% discount code --- that helps!

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
No, too bad I don't know anyone to get their discount. See in my opinion, I think Pathmark tends to have less expensive prices to begin with, but maybe I am wrong. I will have to take a weekend and really investigate all three !:) DH cannot be with me or he will shoot me! He doesn't care as long as he eats. And really right now its not a big thing. I am thinking of next year when we have an extra mouth to feed and one less income!
Well thanks for the help, Ladies.

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
is there a Sams club or a costco near you? I buy all my meats there and the portions aren't *too* big. I always end up freezing stuff, but the deal is totally worth it.

I like Waldbaums...I usually compare the circulars each week, and always wind up there. Also, their store brand, Americas Choice, is great for a lot of things!

There are two supermarkets near me. I look at the papers every weekend to see which one has the sales for the things I need. I also go to BJs and Sams to buy certain things in bulk. I also use my coupons. I found this to be hepful in keeping my grocery bill down.

Yeah, our friend got us as a housewarming gift a Costco membership. I have just not got around yet to going and getting it started. I think I will have to do that soon. Maybe start buying in bulk there.

I go to Costco for bulk things (water, tp, garbage bags, etc) and that helps too.

JUst go thru your circulars every saturdayand see who has the most on sale thats what I do
plus, I can tell you do not SHOP at KING KULLEN they are overpriced on everything(IMO) I worked in a supermarket for over ten years so I know good sales and it seems that king kullen doesnt have them and if they do have something on sale you will find it in another circular for 75 cents to a dollar cheaper in another store

Oh I would never go to King Kullen! That is why I didn't even mention it! My husband went to the one on Union Blvd in West Islip last week (without my permission of course) and he loved it. He spent a fortune, I could have killed him. But he loved the store. Oh yeah they are clean, I told him! They charge an arm and a leg, they can afford to have the cleaning lady come every night! :)

Agree with Tammy on King Kullen -- i have one down the block from me and they are not good for your big shopping. I only go there if it's for something quick - they are way overpriced AND their stuff always scans at a higher price!

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
Shop Rite is good too. I price compare between Pathmark, Shop Rite and Stop & Shop. However, the Stop & Shop by my house is closed for renovations so that is a bummer. I always clip out coupons and buy when that item is on sale. I also stock up too. If Pathmark has snapples on sale, I buy 2/4 cases unless it’s an item on sale for the month. I find that Shop Rite always has vegetables and fruits a lot cheaper than the other 2 grocery stores. Then they have the clip coupon on the cover of their circular. If you buy $10 worth of items example you can get large green peppers for 49 cents a lb.

Re: Food Shopping --HELP and POLL ASAP BEFORE WE GO BROKE
I would become a member at costco and buy everything in bulk. (it saves you tons of money and you don't have to go to the market as often). We just buy milk, bread, & small stuff at regular markets on a weekly basis.

I love waldbaums. I find it cheaper and most have a better selection than the other supermarkets. We buy all our meat and paper products at PriceClub though. It is much cheaper to buy it in bulk and then just separate the meat into portions and freeze.
