Parent gift idea-tell me what you think..Updated!

Not sure if you guys will be able to help me this one but i thought i would try..
I was thinking of getting an artist to draw a picture from a photo..for our parents gifts...a portrait of there wedding picture.
my friend had this done of her picture with someone she founf online but does not love it.
any one ever heard of this or know anyone?

My FI and I just received this as a gift. A friend of his took a pic of his grandfather and had a painting done of it. He was in tears when he saw it. THe detail is just amazing. I don't know who the artist is but I will find out if you like.

sure i actually saw something similiar to that but I think it was an oil painting. It was on QVC and actually I've seen it afew times. They make a big portrait Im guessing 11 x 14 for like $150-$200 if memory serves me right.

You can call them (QVC) and see if they know anything about that.

An idea just came to me the other day. I am thinking of doing a shadow box picutre frame and making it with different baby things from my and FH past along with some wedding items. Knowing my mom she will love something like that. That way both parents can put it on their walls to look at it for years.

Sounds nice huh?

could you? that would be awesome thanks! We have 4 sets of parents together so we wanted something that would be both equal and special and unique for all of them! You can FM me the details when you knwo them..thanks again!

Edited to say the shadow box idea sounds really nice too!

I actually did the oil painting for my parents one Xmas. I took their wedding picture and had an oil painting done of it. It is absolutlely gorgeous.

My MOH & her boyfriend are both artists (painters, specifically) & honestly he does excellent portriats. His works out of their apartment(or on site if necessary), I don't know what he'd charge & currently they are both in Italy for a month teaching art, but if anyone one wants to wait you can FM & I will ask him when he gets back(July 1st). It doesn't take him very along at all, so as long as your wedding isn't till August he could do it!

Hey guys..it is me again..i had an idea...you know those people who are on the streets @42nd st. drawing tourists etc.. I was watching them last weekend on my way to a show and some of them are quite good..i wonder how much it would cost there and if it would be any good...Just an idea..let me know what you think!!

DONT DO IT!!!! I did this for my wedding...i had a guy on the street paint or really sketch a picture of my moms 3 kids and it came out horrible!!!!! The guy charged us 130 dollars and we had to take it. I suggest you finding a real artist cause although some of those men r wonderful, you never know which one will be good at this.

I think it is an awesome idea though!

I was just in Kinkos and they are doing this now. They looked pretty good! Obviously not a true oil painting, but looked darn close. You can do it to look like water color or oil paint. Check it out...I think it was something like $65..
