October vs. November Weddings

Hi there--I'm new to the board and I have a dilemma. I'm trying to decide whether I should have my wedding on Sunday, October 10, 2004 (Colombus Day weekend) or Saturday, November 6, 2004. The prices at the reception hall are the same for both dates.

Attending a wedding on a Saturday night may be more ideal for guests, but the October weather may be nicer and would allow more sunlight for taking outdoor photos. Then again, weather is so unpredictable anyway! (Also, at least some of the guests attending would have off the following day anyway because of the holiday.)

Anyway, I'm having a difficult time making this decision and any input would help!! Thanks!

Re: October vs. November Weddings

I'm getting married in November of this year - I think the weather will be more fall like and the leaves will have begun to turn so hopefully the pictures will reflect that. But as you said the weather is unpredictable - it could be 50 degrees in Oct and 60 in November! It is all potluck..either time will be nice..

Re: October vs. November Weddings

my brother got married the first weekend in november and it luckily was a relatively warm day (in the high 50s!). personally, i would prefer a saturday wedding any time of the year to a sunday wedding. just more convenient since i generally have to travel for weddings.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

I think they'd both be beautiful. Fall is my favorite season, and if I remember correctly, the first week of November is gorgeous! The leaves are still on the trees, for the most part. It might depend on where you have your reception, as well.. some parts of the island (if you're getting married here, that is) might be a lot more windy (like close to the water) and so that might affect the trees. I originally wanted to get married that time of year too, but it was too expensive for us! Either date you chose will be great, I'm sure.

Just my 2 cents

Re: October vs. November Weddings

Are outside pictures importatnt to you? If you really want outside pictures then October migght be a better time. I am getting married Columbus Day weekend, Sunday, becasue I couldn't afford a Saturday wedding, because of the minimum, I refused to pay for 50 extra people that would not be attending.

I thought that most people have off the day after, and some people don't have it off, so it is hard to say. Most people prefer to attend Saturday weddings, but I really don't care which day it is on. If you got married on Sunday what is the time of the wedding? At night, during the day?

Mine wedding is at night but it starts at 6:00, they had a leter start time of 7:30 also, which wouldn't end until 12:30, mine ends at 11:00 which I thought wasn't bad so if people still had to work.

Also what about flowers or dresses, I wanted light blue and yello, and I felt that October would be better for those colors.

Sorry so long!!!

Re: October vs. November Weddings

If you're sure they're the same price, I'd go with October for weather's sake. It could rain either day, but chances are it's be warmer in October. Most people have off on Columbus Day so the Sunday thing shouldn't be a problem, and if you have out-of-towners, the 3-day weekend is actually better.
Mine is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend next year and we actually got Sunday night pricing even though some places charge you Saturday prices due to the holiday. I love that I'm doing it on a 3 day weekend. But if you're having a Church wedding, check into the dates for that first! That might make up your mind for you.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

The Saturday in November is what I would choose. Weather is too unpredictable anyhow, and if its bad, most halls have gorgeous indoor spots for photos.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

I was married in November...so I am a bit biased.

I think you can't go wrong with either choice...I just happen to be a huge fan of Saturday night weddings.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

I like Nov but i'm getting married this nov. actually i was looking for oct also but the hall wasn't available for the weekend i wanted in oct. since the nov date is early on in the month- you could still do outside pics. i think having a sat wedding opposed to sunday is a lot easier on the out of towners.

let us know what you pick!

I would go for the Sat in Nov. It is early enough in November that you may get decent weather.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

i myself picked november 6 2004... my FI had a few demands(must be a saturday night, but he didnt really care where, and he rather it be cold then hot(summer)...)

Me personally its a toss up, november 6 could be cold(or warm), but it at least is a saturday..
October would be nicer weather but on a sunday some people might leave early(for work the next day)Plus in october you could do an autum theme with pumpkins and stuff.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

Welcome to LIW!!!

Generally, I would prefer a Sat night wedding to a Sunday wedding. There is no way to predict or count on the weather - look at today for instance. And I have not been off for Columbus day since I finished school.

IMO, the thing to consider is the amount of day light in Nov. If you want outdoor pictures, you might need to have an early ceremony or take them before the ceremony.

Where are you looking?

Good luck

Re: October vs. November Weddings

November might be a little colder but in October you could also have a hurricane.
You just never know. Last year in March we had days of 75 degree weather. Its a gamble no matter what month you pick.

Re: October vs. November Weddings

IMO, I would pick November 6th. It is a beautiful time of year. My brother got married 5 years ago in the beginning of November, and their pictures are beautiful with the orange, yellow, and red leaves in the background. Also I like saturday weddings much better. Some people might like to make plans to go away for their holiday weekends. Good Luck and let us know what you decide.
