Joint Bank Account

DH and I want to open a joint bank account but I have not changed my name yet, but it is on our marriage certificate. Is that enough for us to open it as Mr and Mrs Smith or would I still need to use my maiden name?

I think you need your license too, I brought our marriage certificate and my new SS card too. Call the bank and ask them.

since 9/11 the banks have to adhere to all these security questions. we tried opening up account but it was such a pain! the woman didn't understand that i have an apt in the city where all my bills go to but i work out in long island. it's a family business and we even have the business account with this bank!! she didn't understand why we were at the branch in kings park- even after i explained that he lives there until we get married and then he'll be in the city also. she couldn't comprehend any of this. stupid woman. and my name isn't changing.

and the both of us have separate existing checking or savings account right now!!

anyway, we had to give them our driver's license and a major credit card.

I believe I had to show them my driver's licence with my new name on it. They needed photo id.

we had the account before we were married...but when I changed my name on the account..all I needed was the marriage cert...

so I am guessing that your license in your maidan name is OK...since it shows on the marriage license that it is now changed...
