What to do with a 2yo and 5yo for the weekend? *UPDATE We Survived
Suggestions ladies? We will be taking our 5yo Niece and 2yo Nephew for the weekend ( well really just Sat and overnight till mid day Sunday) so Mom & Dad can celebrate their Anniversary. We are thinking about going to see Nemo. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Update
We Survived and so did they. We went to see Nemo which they loved. We had a few minutes before the move so we went to Boarders and let them each pick out a book. Later we had thier fav. Mac and Cheese for dinner read the new books and made brownies for the next day. Bedtime was fine until Matty woke up around 1:30 asking for juice. I made the huge mistake of giving him water. He took one sip handed me back the glass and cried Juice and then started with about 10 minutes of I WANT MY MOMMY, I WANT MY DADDY!. Ill never make that mistake again. They woke about about 8:00 on Sunday we had breakfast and got ready for the BBQ. They were so cute helping out with everything. Of couse they were very excited to see Mommy and Daddy when they showed up.
I have to say we were exhausted last night. For all of you who manage parenting/homes/careers full time - my hat is off to you.

About the Long Island Game Farm? I think Nemo might be too much for a 2 year old- JMO. I hate that Disney always has to kill off a parent in their movies and find it very upsetting. Also, the dentist is shown as a really scary man. Some children mighht be afraid. Not sure how your little ones are about that stuff.

LI Game Farm is excellent if it is a nice day. Just make sure you have a stroller for the 2 year old. I would do Chuck E Cheese only if it is raining and you have nothing else to do. It has to be the nosiest place on the face of the Earth!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I didnt think Nemo had any scarey parts. Shows you what I know.We love Atlantis we did that with them last summer and they still talk about it.
Does Adventureland have rides for the little guy? He wants to do everything big sister does.
They have horses, chichens a pig a few goats (really) right next door at their Grandmothers house so the game farm does nothing for them.
Anything else? I figure keeping them busy will take their minds off Mommy. At least for the little guy. My Niece has been asking to sleep over for months.

since it may be a rainy day...why don't you set up some craft projects?my cousin would watch us every election day (my mom worked for the democratic party...and we didn't have school)
we painted ceramincs, made little stuffed teddy bears...the 2yo could just do some coloring or fingerpainting?
rent a movie? make popcorn?

Re: What to do with a 2yo and 5yo for the weekend?
Nemo- it is only my opinion that some of it can be seen as scary for children. I have a real problem with young children seeing a parent die. I don't understand why Disney loves to do that, but they do. (with lady and the tramp and dalmations as the exception to this comment). Again, I think it depends on the child.I also suggest that you bring water bottles and a lunch to the Game Farm or else you will pay $$$$$ for a hot dog lunch. As it is you have to pay for the goat feed etc... I bring candy/soda/water to the movie theatre too because I refuse to spend $3.75 on a soda when I can buy a 12-pk of soda for even less than that.
Also, finger paints can be fun too!

Bumper Bowling (my nieces and nephews love that). Also, a lot of the towns are having their street fairs now also, you can see if there is one close to you.If you get a nice day you can go down to the beach or one of the parks.

Re: What to do with a 2yo and 5yo for the weekend?
When I visit LI I always have my neice and nephew for a few days. And since I don't see them often, I try to do something fun.If the weather is nice the beach is the best......preferably one with a park as well.
If the weather is rainy, I second the craft projects. Also baking cookies with that ready to bake dough, or just-add-water cookies is something fun to do.
I try to avoid noisey places...especially that sports plex place by the mall. That mistake I will only make once
Sounds like a fun weekend!

I just took my son to see Finding Nemo (he'll be 2 next month) He was scared at first but by the end he loved it!!Atlantis (IMO) is to small to be so $$$
You can try a Nathans that might have video games or Jillians.
If you have a decent bowling alley near you. Go there but ask them to put the bumpers on for the kids.
If you don't mind the drive go to NY Aquarium in Coney Island. It's alot bigger then Atlantis & then you have the rides next to it!

Re: What to do with a 2yo and 5yo for the weekend?
Thanks again ladies. I have my list of things to do all set! Alexis has informed me that she would like to get a manicure
. She is so funny. She has gone with her Mom a few times and loves it. So I think we can start out with that. Matty will stay with his fav. Uncle John and play ball or something. Then we are either doing Nemo or the park. To tell the truth I would love to do a fertival but I am a little nervous about watching them in crouds. We will BBQ in the evening and make some goddies for Fathers Day. We will have 30 people over on Sunday so I need to get them to bed at a decent hour. I'll let you know how it goes.
