Changed Plans-Doing a Hawaiian Theme BBQ for BP :-))…
First off FH and I have never ‘thrown’ any type of party. We don’t live together, but we want to have a GTG for the BP at my house. So if there are any ‘etiquette’ things we should know, please share! What to do and what NOT to do suggestions are helpful. What should we have besides hamburgers and hotdogs, beer, and this is where I get stuck. Should we place the beer somewhere where accessible-cooler, garage fridge. Sorry if that question sounded stupid but we want to do this ourselves without my parents help.
Any ideas on how to introduce the BP to each other? I was thinking of putting name tags on each person that comes. A few of the BP members didn’t meet at the e-party. There won’t be many. I think the total is about 20-25 people plus kids.
Thanks!

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
I did this last summer Wanda and it was a HUGE hit. The only difference is that most of my BP already knew each other. I had hamburgers and hot dogs as appetizers and then Steak, rice, beans, salads and Baked Ziti as the main meal. I put everything out on tables in Sterno's (kept it warm
). FI was in charge of liquor. We had 3 suitcases of beer, tequila, and mixed drinks for the girls. Good Luck!!!!Edited to add that I don't like the name tag idea. I kept it very infomal and no etiqutte involved. Just great food, great people and lots of liquor
Once you introduce people they'll start chatting it up.

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
I think a BP GTG sounds great! I don't think you will need name tags since most people know someone. You would want the beverages (beer, soda, water, etc) some place accessible to everyone and away from the BBQ in cooler is ideal so people wont be going in and out of the garage. A big pail with a heavy duty garbage bag works well for the too.
For the grill: Steak, chicken, spareribs, corn on the cob. You could also consider having chicken or steak shish kebobs (you can get them premade in the super market or butcher or make them your selves).
Other things: Fruit salad, potate salad, cole slaw, regular salad.
HTH! Have a great time

AH Curly our infamous ‘arroz con gandules!! Mmmm.. LOL Corn on the cob is perfect. Shish kabobs (sp?) is a good idea too.We have 2 big coolers. A garbage pail will do instead of my Dad’s fridge.
My parents have a small table on wheels they use for their bbqs in the summer. I can put the hard liquor on that… Thanks you guys are giving me more ideas!!!
What is HTH?

I don't think name tags are necessary either, a BBQ is fun and informal, nametags make it kinda structured ya know? Do you have a big yard? It is a crazy crowd? You could play volley ball and stuff, but if no games, I think everyone will mingle and get along just fine.Fruit salad for dessert, cookies, easy things you can grab and walk around with.

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
dessert you should just be simple about(after making all that dinner food)... chocolate chip cookies or brownies, maybe an apple pie from the store... Plus some guest will probably bring a dessert anyways

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
I would try and keep it simple, fruit salad or watermelon, brownies and cookies are always good bets, especially if you have kids coming.Pastries are nice but just make sure t here is room in the fridge
Sounds yummy!!!

I second the jello shots!
Edited to remind you to have enough cups and ice. Whenever we have parties FI ends up having to run out to get more ice!

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
I've gone to some that have a huge picture album of the bride groom and BP at different points in time so everyone got a good laugh out of all the 80s hair styles and the wonderful clothing
It cracks people up and makes everyone more at ease

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
Hmm, you may be able to rent one, they sell them pretty cheap in like target if you think you'll get use out of it again. But if you don't think a lot of people will participate, don't even waste the time or money. But it will prob keep the kids busy ya know?Ice, Ice, Ice...I know I already reminded you, but I honestly can't say it enough!
This thread is making me so hungy.

Re: Throwing a Meet & Greet/BBQ for the BP need ideas…
Hey!!!For the past three years we have been throwing BBQ'S upstate at FDR Park.
I am always in charge of food- he is in charge of games.
Food is a no brainer just have plenty of it. I think the girls covered the necessities. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, steaks, chicken, shiskabobs, salads , fruits etc etc.
As far as drinks make sure you have alot of bottled water on hand and a sufficient amount of juice. We went to a BBQ a few weeks ago and their was too much soda- not everyone drinks soda.
Make sure there is plenty of Corona, ooh and jello shots -love them. Maybe make a nice spiked punch.
GAmes are veryb important. We usually have spades, uno, taboo, volleyball, football, soccer. go to Sports Authority.
